I’ve just put one of my new telescopic whistles on eBay. I haven’t named it yet, but two possibilities are “The Mariner”, which evokes travelling and brass telescopes and “The Roamer”, which fits in with my others: Rambler and Rover. (My son suggests “The Thunderstick”.) Any other name ideas?
I can email a sound sample, played by another member of this board, if anyone is interested.
Looks like a cool whistle. I’d bid if I didn’t carry a Whitecap on a Clare two piece everywhere I go.
As for the name, I personally would avoid “roamer”. I just think it would get easily confused with “rambler” and 'rover" with all the alliteration and similar meanings. Mariner is pretty cool. You may want to consider “the voyager” as well.
One of the reasons I put the first one on eBay is to find out what people might be willing to pay for such a whistle. I’m thinking of charging around C$100, including shipping, to start with.
How about offering a Bb version, with wider tubing and more than two collapsing sections? A whistle in that key is always the one which I end up carrying in my hand because it’s too long for the pocket of my bodhran case. Also, the more sections there are, the more “conical” it will be when telescoped. I too agree about the “Mariner” name, ist güt.
