As a New Years update, here is a list of all the offerings here at O’Brien Whistles, along with links to my website where photos and sounds are available:
I don’t know how many of you have tried these low whistles, but they are quite nice. A little bit sharp tone holes, and a little quiet, but very nice indeed. - And did I mention the low price?
I think my New Year’s Resloution may be to finally get an O’Brien. I’ve wanted one for quite a while and that stowaway sure is tempting. (The price is tempting too)
Speaking of tone-hole edges…I LOVE’EM sharp! Rounded-off edges, on the tone-holes of low whistles, make sealing them a chore! Having the edges ground down should be a “special order,” IMHO. I own one low Eb whistle that has a great textured tone, is beautifully in tune, and is handsome looking to boot…BUT the tone-hole edges are ground down, making this tooter one of the hardest to play in my bunch.
I’ll take another look at these O’Briens, now that I know something of the construction and sound! Thanks!
Just got my Rover in Zebrawood the other day and I have been playing it quite a bit since then. This is a lovely whistle. Great response and tuning, lovely sound. Has moderate, even volume across both octaves with an easy bell note and a sweet, not screatchy sounding second octave A and B notes.
Love the three piece design and the included sack. Ya gotta love the price tag compared to other handmade wooden whistles.
