O'Brien: CP for October

I thought I would mention a few things, since the topic of my low D whistles came up in another thread.

  1. Rob over at Whistle This has had one of my low Ds for several weeks now, so I’m expecting a review soon. He also has a Stowaway telescopic brass high D to review.

  2. In the meantime, you can watch videos of me playing one of my low D whistles- please excuse the playing and the kids’ noises in the abandoned railway tunnel I decided to record in.

  1. I am interested in sending one of my nickel plated copper high D whistles on a very short tour, to two or three well-respected reviewers. I’ve made several improvements since they were last reviewed. Drop me a PM if you’d like to be included.

Thanks.

Other whistles make dogs howl, yours make kids noisy.

New selling argument?

On another note (get it?), a video with a fast tune would be good too.

Dave,

What’s the difference in bore and voiceing of a telescoping whisltle vs. a narrow bore brass?

Thanks!

Nate

Hi Nate,

The narrow bore brass is half an inch, outside diameter and 7 sixteenths inside diameter. It has a focused, almost reedy tone.

The telescopic brass is made of thinner tubing and the lower section is a little narrower than the upper. The lower section is half-inch, inside diameter. The upper section is 17 thirty-seconds. This whistle has a more traditional sound- lively.

Hope this helps.

More smiles, David!
