Grannymouse,
Thanks for the info. It is much appreciated.
Lady Whistler
You’re welcome LW…had a lapse of memory here and couldn’t remember the name…that doesn’t happen very often ROTFL…or guess the in word is…hee..Gm
GM,
Don’t worry about it I have memory lapses all the time. Are you going to the Festival? I know I am and I’m going to drag my entire family kicking and screaming to it.
Lady Whistler
Dia dhuit, everyone!
I s’pose I might have to go! Just a 6 or 7 hour road trip from my house, if they don’t have the road chopped up around McAlester and Durant. Are the Ladies supposed to be there? Even if not, I’m sure it will be loads of fun!
Slan,
BB
P.S. - I’m a newbie, so do I have to go through any initiation mayhem?
I’ll be going again this year. Dunno if I’m going to bring the wife and little one yet…I think that decision will be made closer to trip time.
I’m not sure who all went last year, but I think (due to the weather and other reasons) that I was the only C&Fer that made it. But, I’d certainly love to hook up and chat with any of you guys that make it up that way.
Greg
I’d love to go but too early to make any promises. We’ll definitely have to get a little session going should it come to pass.I was so disappointed not to be able to meet up with you and Lee, Greg, at the Ren Fair last fall. Gm
I’m trying to talk my family into going…Most of them are all for it, but my mom is helping on an Emaus walk(she’s going to be a table leader I think, to all of those who know what an Emaus walk is). So we can’t exactly go off to Texas, otherwise she would have no support. My brother just got his driver’s liscense yesterday (fear for you lives if you’re driving through Oklahoma!) so I don’t think my parents will let him drive you Texas come March. Now my only other hope of getting down there is if I recruit some of our jam-goers (that’s a made up word!) to go down there and take me with them… Oh well…To all who are going, I hope you have a good time!
Brent
Dia dhuit!
Kardshark, we need to start an Arkansas-Oklahoma Irish FEstival (acronym AOIFE, pretty clever, eh?).
BTW, as far as my initiation, please don’t suggest cutting off both little fingers - I’m also a guitarist. Just cut off the one on the right hand (OOPS - can’t do that either, or I can’t play the recorder). I guess you can cut off the one on the left hand and I can start playing the guitar left-handed!
Eist le glor De,
BB
I made it to the Festival last year for the first time. Right after that I started playing the whistle and also discovered C&F soon afterwards. I am definitely planning on going again this year!
Joe
Thanks, Grannymouse, for the post. I was thinking this happened later in the year and I might have missed it. I’ll be there if at all possible.
Brent – good to hear from you. Say, don’t be too hard on your brother. I’m guessing that you, too, are poised to become a threat to Oklahoma highways before long. In 2003, maybe?

BB,
Have you ever heard of Tulsa, OK? If so, how far away do you live from there?
Jay,
Where you been man?! Have you been receiving the jam flyer? Its ok if the jam isn’t on a good night, or if you’re not interested. But I just want to make sure you’re getting them.
Brent
P.S. Did you hear that the Celtic Fiddle Fest is going to be in Tulsa on Feb. 15-16? I think tickets might already be sold out though…

Yes, indeed. I have season tickets to the Celtic Series so I’ll be there.
Yes, I’ve received the flyers and the e-mail and I appreciate getting them, but my schedule has been nuts and the timing just hasn’t worked out. I’ll try to make it as soon as I’m able.
Yes, Kardshark, I’ve been to T-town many times. I make the 3 or 4 mile trip from Fort Smith to meet I-40 at Roland, then get on the Muskogee Turnpike close to the Love’s station, pump $1.25 into each tollbooth (usually stopping at that Mickey-D’s in the middle. McFlurry to go, please!), then come in on the B.A. Whenever I’m there, you can often find me hanging out at “The Music Store” on 31st street, trying to decide if I want that Danelectro 12-string electric or if I’d rather spend my money on more whistles! (They had a nice Celtic harp last time I was there.)
BTW, I see that the south-central corridor (AR, OK, TX, LA, KS, and MO) seems to have a pretty respectable Irish population (at least, we’d better be respectable)!
All the best,
BB
Wifey and I will be dancing with the Step Dancing school we belong to (Emerald School) during the festival.
Maybe this year they’ll have whistle workshops other than when we’re dancing.
Hey IguanaGuy,
Can you tell me how the workshops at the Festival work? Is there a charge/registration or do you just show up with your instrument and participate?
Thanks,
Joe

You just show up and participate. I was particularly disappointed in the whistle/woodwinds workshop however. While the guy putting it on seemed knowledgeable, and could definitely play, it was more of a “demonstration of various types of irish music” than a workshop. Lots of people showed up with instruments. I sat thru 3/4 of it and during that time, no one had an opportunity to play or ask questions, so I got up and left. Maybe it’ll be better this year.
Greg
I just finalized my weekend plans. My band’s performing the 2nd, so I’ll have to give NTIF a skip Saturday, but I’m planning on being there Sunday, the 3rd. I would love to meet up with some of the other C&F’ers to share some tunes and/or a pint. Would be great if we could arrange some kind of meeting time and place..perhaps someone who knows the site better could recommend a good place and time?
Greg
Greg…it would have to be fairly early in the day for me…our flight leaves at 4:30 and you have to be there so darn early (not complaining). Would love to take part. Gm
Early’s fine with me…I plan on drivin up saturday night, spending the night, and getting there when they open.
