I may have to go! Now that there’s a new stretch of interstate highway between Fort Smith and Bentonville, the trip won’t take too long. They also have U.S. 71 improved between Joplin and KC, don’t they? May call for a quick run to Worlds of Fun, too!

BB - highway 71 is 4 lanes most, if not all, of the way now. It’s also 70 mph most of the way which speeds up the trip a bit.

This should be a good festival - I’m glad they combined two smaller fests for this one large one, held on the banks of the Missouri river in one of our newer parks. Also, at $5 per day, the tickets are cheap, especially considering the number of big acts sprinkled in amongst the locals.

How interesting! I wonder if there
will be a flute workshop.

Unless they add them, there are no planned workshops. I’m not involved in the planning at all, but at my slow session the leader knows several folks who are involved in the planning — so I’m getting about 3rd hand knowledge which may be suspect, but it’s been on target so far.

I’m a bit far away here in Wisconsin (and I’ve got Milwaukee Irish Fest less than an hour away) but I have ties to and really like the KC area - this sounds like it may be a good excuse for a trip there! I just made reservations yesterday for a trip in October, and I’m probably also coming in November, but, hey, why not come in August too? Hmmmmmm, definitely something to consider…

First hand I can tell you that there are workshops at our festival. I am responsible for the website and have yet to post the Heritage & Culture details. When I do it will include:
Bodhran Workshop
Accordian Workshop
a Ceili
and a Jam Session
More details will appear on the site shortly, including the schedule of the Heritage events.

Well, as I said, my source would rate as about 3rd hand…Still, for our purposes, we’re workshopless…

Apologies, in my current haste I didn’t mention the most important element relevant to the posting:

On the Sunday - Aug 31 - from 1:30 - 2:25pm there is a Whistle/Flute Workshop in the Heritage area at the KC Irish Fest. Tonight or tomorrow I’ll post a more complete listing on the festival website.

Kelly Dougherty is I believe responsible for the organizing of the workshop: jkellyd@kcirishfest.com

Forgive me for being stupid but what does one do at a workshop? Does someone instruct you on how to play? Just curious as we are going on Sunday..
