So, today I’ve noticed that the word “Member” appears between
the screennames and avatars on many people’s posts. What is
this for? Is this part of the new Moderation, wherein a certain
amount of musical discussion is required? Or am I just dense,
not noticing something that’s been around for years?
Oh, great now when some one asks, “are you, or have you ever been a member of the Chiff & Fipple board?” there will be no denying it. And to think I used my real name.
On the plus side C&F moderators haven’t broken my sword and left me branded.
Skipping through the forums I have noticed that it is only those of us with a certain amount of posts under our belts are deemed to be Members.
Looks like a probationary period has been introduced to weed out spammers and such.
I’m sure an explanation will be forthcoming when the Mods get some time.
Right now Member status comes at 50 posts. I’m just experimenting a bit with the possibilities of using this. So, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
I think you should set it so it calculates the ratio between your posts in the Pub/Controversy forums and your posts in the other forums that actually have something to do with whistles or pipes or Irish music or something related to either a chiff or a fipple. For those who care, that would be –
P = Posts in Pub
C = Posts in Controversial forum
T = Total Posts
X = _Non-I_rish _M_usic _R_elated, _O_ff-topic _D_iscussion coefficient (your NIMROD rating).
Then X = (P + C)/T
Then assign labels based on the NIMROD rating, which can never exceed 1.
NIMROD of 0 to .1 >>>>>>> IRTRAD Obsessed
NIMROD of .1 to .25 >>>>>> Serious Musician
NIMROD of .25 to .75 >>>>> Average Joe Whistler
NIMROD of .75 to .9 >>>>>> Babbler
NIMROD of .9 to 1>>>>>>> Out and Out Waste of Bandwidth
For example, at the time of this writing, I had 1050 total posts, with 226 in the controversial forum and 558 in the pub. Therefore, my NIMROD rating is (558 + 228)/1050 = 0.748571428571429, placing me just shy of Babbler.
Turns out I’m a high-ranking Babbler. Sounds about right.
(Of course, what the NIMROD score doesn’t take into account is how much benefit us Babblers and Wastes of Bandwidth get out of the other forums by reading them, even when we’re not knowledgable enough to contribute.)
