With a new baby in the house, both parents working, and frankly not much time for anything else, I may have to part with my flat B full set of pipes. They were a one of a kind set made by Bruce Childress in 2001 with really unique turnings and horn mounts that we designed together. They have a wrap around bass regulator, one of the first if not the first he did, that makes them a breeze to fit and play. They are playing really well, but are spending alot of time in their case unfortunately, and they deserve to be played. A bunch of you have seen or played these at tionols and gatherings over the past few years, and they were on the cover of the Piper’s Review a couple of years ago.
If anyone is interested, please contact me via email. I really don’t want to part with them but between no time to play them, all my hard earned dough going to baby related costs (not to mention saving for her wedding and college), and still paying off repairs to the house thanks to the 2004 hurricane season, I feel that this may be the best course of action.
Here is a link of the pipes when first born. The reed chamber of the 180 degree bass regulator is now on the bottom per my request.
Also, someone had asked what I wanted for the pipes and frankly I have yet to figure it out. I don’t want to profit just get what is fair and have the pipes in the hands of someone who has time to play. I looked at BC’s website and new with over a three year wait and without some of the detailing, these pipes would sell for over $6,100… which I still think is a bargain for such a solid instrument.
Let me know if you are interested.
edited to add:
I forgot to mention that these come with a case that happens to both fit two sets but also fits in overhead bins (bass clarinet case), and the bellows are essentially new and unused since I have been using my older bellows with both sets .
I also have some other D chanters that I can part with as well, including a Britton-reworked pakistani chanter with a kicking Lynch reed in it.
I have played this set on a couple of different occasions and it’s a beauty alright. The drones are killer solid, and perfectly matched with the chanter… which is a great joy to play. The tone and blend off of the regulators is simply angelic!
I’m sorry to see them go John, I know how much you love this set. I’m sorry I can’t buy them from you until such time as you are able to buy them back.
