There’s a nice, well played by the looks of it, Rudall & Rose in the Gardiner & Houlgate Music instruments auction today, 13th of June. Couldn’t make out the serial number. Cracked barrel with what looks like a quick home repair, glue and tape.
"Eight keyed flute by Rudall & Rose, London, mid 19th century, stamped Rudall & Rose, no.1 Tavistock Street, Covent Garden, London, the eight nickel keys on wooden blocks, case, length 662mm, sound length 575mm (a.f) estimate 500-800.
Good spot, Steampacket! It definitely has sterling keys (not nickel as stated) and the serial # is in the 42xxs or 43xxs. Small side of medium holes, foot joint upper ferrule ring missing, partial crack in head (?) and cracked barrel, embouchure nice and crisp (though a chip by back edge - not a biggie) full overhaul and renovation needed… It’s all there bar the one ring and doesn’t appear to have any nasty “issues” - cracker for someone!

There’s also (amongst other odds and ends) a Hill (late Monzani) and a nice looking Siccama copy which should be good at CP from the sounding length.
UUUps… I missed the whole thing… nice items indeed.
Both Hill and R&R are intresting looking flutes, good luck for the buyers, well done!
I only saw this around 15:00 today. By then the auction was already over
, so it’ll be interesting to find out more about this Rudall, where it came from, and of course how much it went for. I think the serial number looks to be 43??. Last time I checked out this particular auction a couple of weeks ago there were only a number of oboes on offer in the wind instrument section.
Went for £1050 + buyer’s premium.
had a few more issues than just the barrel.
but either way. a decent price (~2500 after VAT and premium and shipping)
i was not a bidder, btw.
but i did have the photos taken for me earlier for the catalogue.
if someone here purchased it ( i believe i know who) let me know privately anything you learn of it.

Congratulations!! Yes, a decent price indeed as David remarked. This is the second simple system Rudall since September 2012 that has been auctioned through G&H.
