Brain Fitness
Not long ago, most scientists believed the brain became “hard-wired” during childhood, and that there was little you could do to improve its function once you entered adulthood. Not anymore. The scientific community now accepts that the brain retains its plasticity—the ability to rewire itself for better function—throughout life. This website is dedicated to educating the public about the brain and cognition, how (and why) the brain can change during the course of life, and what you can do to sharpen your brain.
There’s a Brain Fitness Video and computer game available at a discount through PBS if you subscribe…
which may or may not mean highway robbery depending on how you look at it.
I just sent away for mine. We’ll see if it helps
I wonder if HTML counts? I’ve been wanting to take a stab at that…
We have Rosetta Stone Portuguese I and II-- the kid is learning it from scratch, and for me it’s a review (used to speak it fairly well 15 yrs ago). I love the Rosetta Stone program. There’s some things about it that are kind of dorky, and we even like those because then we can make fun of it. It’s very spoofable. If we are substituting different vocabulary words into the dialogues and making them sort of surreal, where’s the harm in that?
(More about learning a second language–)–there’s all kinds of goofy commercials on You-Tube!!! I found dozens in Portuguese.
This one is for a cleaning product called Bom Bril. The Bom Bril guy plays all kinds of characters-- it’s a running joke sort of like the Energizer Bunny.
I was amazed when I started reading about them. They could symbolize all sorts of things.
They live very very deep. There’s no way they could come to the surface like I showed in the picture, it would kill them. They have the largest eye in proportion to their size of any animal, so they are able to see in such dim light. They also have a super-slow metabolism so they can survive with so little oxygen.
Coolest of all, they have the ability to flash bioluminescent lights in different psychedelic patterns. It’s like being your own portable rave!
