NorthEast Tionol

Well, I am all registered and set up at Gavin’s. Looks like a great list this year and hopes to be a good time. Any others heading over? Looking forward to a few friendly pints with the great pipers here. Cheers.

Yep, going!

Yes indeedy!

Wish I could make it to this one. Looks fantastic!

Patrick.

See you there Johnny! With any luck, I may have my new 3/4 Taylor style set from Nick Whitmer. If not, well then I shall continue on with the Hughes set which is currently playing well (fingers crossed- there’s lots of weather changes ahead!).
Yes, we’ll definitely share a pint or two!

Wish I could go, too… the crystal ball says it’s in my future, but not this year. :frowning:

…time for a new crystal ball, methinks.

:frowning:

Any recommendations for teachers? So far I have taken classes with Benedict K,. Eammon Dillon, Michael Cooney, Jerry O’ Sullivan, and Cillian Valleley (sp?). Nice to have a variety of playing styles and perspectives. Suggestions?

All of them, if you can swing it.
Is anyone looking for a roomie? I need a bed.

@ Bensdad,

I don’t think visiting All of the teachers over the weekend would be productive, but I agree with you… if only there was more time. Given the constraints, can you narrow the field?
Arbo

I can’t narrow the field…too many great players/teachers, but I would also tell you to spend time with Michael O’Donovan in reedmaking. He is a reed guru - really knows his stuff, and is making great things happen with spruce as a material for chanter reeds!!

Thanks! I will make sure to do this. Do you know if it is a participatory class, or just a demo session like Seth Gallagher did last year?

They are participatory. It looks like there is a beginner and advanced class.

What a great tionol!

For those who attended, did anyone record the concert on Saturday night? My recorder failed during the performance and, unfortunately, was not able to capture Michael Stribling’s incredible playing. I would love a copy if anyone happened to record it.

Me too! Thanks, Arbo

Highlights for me were
a. the C session
b. Michael Stribling: beautifully crafted, meticulous, tasteful playing. Made be happy to be alive. Well served by a beautifully in tune K&Q set.
c. Liz Carroll: took everything there is to know about how to play fiddle, stuck it in a blender, threw the blender at the fan. Electric.
d. Torrin Ryan: beautifully crafted, meticulous, tasteful playing
e. Padraic Keane playing the Dark, Slender Boy: as BK said, had to keep standing up to check it was a 20-year old playing.
f. Nick and Alison’s set in B. Beautiful sound, blend, energy. Maybe we should all get married?
g. intelligent conversations with Nick Whitmer and Kara D. Who else uses the word “overweening”?

Other thoughts anyone?
