Miguel Alonso´s Gaitas

Miguel Alonso is a very good maker from Asturias, he is specialized in Asturian Gaitas for bands with one, two or three drones. The main instrument of his workshop is the Bb asturian Gaita, he have developed an amazing chanter in this pitch, but also he makes very good instruments in another pitchs. Now he is developing a very good prototype of asturian chanter in G, and the result in my opinion is awesome, you can hear an asturian gaita with the the characteristic sound of the stacatto mixed with an “european” tunning. This is a very original invention, you can see it here:

Also you can find a very original video of a two-drones Eb scottish smallpipe with a very mellow sound. Miguel also makes metal whistles, quite similar to Overton whistles, Highland Bagpipes in “national” woods like olive wood, Galician Gaitas, Asturian gaitas in A, Bb, B, C C#, D and Eb, and the best thing for me: THE ASTURIAN PRACTICE SET. If you want to start in Asturian Gaita world, you can buy a practice set for only 300 euros. It has a chanter (the same as the standard bagpipes, fully chromatic), a blowpipe and a bag with a nice bag cover. If you want, you can upgrade to a standard gaita adding a bass drone in the future. This is a very cheap way to beggin your adventures in the asturian bagpiping world. Also, if you want a good Highland Bagpipe with a reasonable price and NOT MADE IN PAKISTAN, you can have a lovely model for 1200 Euros.

I higly recommend this maker because he has a big catalogue and a good quality combined with very reasonable prices. Don´t forgett to follow him in Facebook, and you will notify that he makes really good instruments. His website is: http://www.gaitasmiguelalonso.es/productos.php?pro=5&orden=todos&len=_es
