FS: eight-keyed Reviol

Hiya,

I acquired a great Aebi Pratten secondhand and can’t justify holding two eight-keyed Prattens, so I decided to sell my eight-keyed Reviol since the Aebi plays more ergonomically for me. I found out that, after a couple of hours of constant playing, my left hand starts to hurt. This doesn’t happen when playing the Aebi, so I guess my fingers are too short for the Reviol’s “upper hand section”'s (the flute has a one-piece middle part) diameter, which is quite a bit bigger than on the Aebi. The stretch between the holes isn’t a problem, but one’s hands/fingers should be on the bigger side.

The Reviol is by far the loudest flute I ever met. It likes to get pushed quite hard and is very suitable for the powerful northern playing style. The sound tends to be a bit Rudallish with quite some reediness, but it’s still very open and carrying. Follow the link in below for some (bad) soundfiles. I’ll try to get up some better recordings as soon as I recovered from my acute ear.

The flute is made of Satiné a.k.a. Muirapiranga a.k.a. Bloodwood which has tonal qualities similar to snakewood since it’s closely related to it. The keys are made of brass and bronze and are plated with silver. French-style head joint (partially lined). Go to www.reviol.co.nz for photos, my flute is the one in the second row from top in the gallery. Serial #76.

Issues: there is a tiny hairline crack in the surface of the food joint. The footjoint has been replaced already due to the same issue, and it developed a new crack. The crack doesn’t extend to the bore (actually it’s just a few micrometers deep) and has been stabilized, no further cracks since then. Very difficult to take a picture since the crack is so tiny, but you’ll find the best I could take below.
Furthermore, there is a small ding in the wood near LH3, I really don’t have a clue how it got there…barely visible, but I tried to take a photo.

I’m asking 1600 euro (they’re 2000+ new). Insured shipping included in europe, if you’re across the pond I’ll add the difference between shipping cost in europe and to your location. I might also fancy a good (partial) trade.

In case you want to check my reputation, here’s what ebay has to say.

You can contact me via email (see below) or PN.

Thanks for your consideration!

Best regards,
Gabriel

Sound file
A (mostly) chromatic scale from low C to 3rd octave G (warning, it’s quite loud), followed by a D(mix) scale, followed by some tunes, all incorporating the foot keys (I missed the last one a bit…don’t play that one very often).

Bump, I’ll add sound files tomorrow.

Bump again, price reduced.

what is the new price?

I paid 2015 euro.

yes, but how much were you looking to get for this flute now? you said you wanted 1600 euro for it in the first post and now i’m wondering what you marked the price down to.

Please, irish69, no need to be too excited, for the seller is an established member of this, the C&F board, and thereby deserves at least a modicum of respect. That is, the price is the price, agree or not.

Please, PM me should you have reason to disagree, and I thank you for your consideration.

What are you talking about Cork? I don’t see how my post was disrespectful. I am interested in his flute. He said in his first post that he wants 1600 for it. Than he said that he lowered the price. When I asked him the updated price he told me what he paid for it. I don’t see how this answered my question, so I asked him what he was asking for the flute as of now. I can understand that the way in which I worded my query may have been confusing and I was clarifying what I wanted to know. If anyone is getting excited here I think its you.

I am not against you, irish69, but the C&F board appears not to be an auction, and although an established member of this board could suggest a price for a flute, please let me remind you that there apparently are members of this board who are first and foremost artists, and not in the business of selling flutes. Therefore, the price that they ask is simply the price that they ask, and their price may or may not have anything to do with reality, so all a consumer such as yourself need to do is either agree with that price, or not.

C’mon, irish69, let’s work together!

We are, after all, flute players, eh?

Therefore, the price that they ask is simply the price that they ask, and that their price may or may not have anything to do with reality, so all a consumer such as yourself need to do is either agree with that price, or not

I still do not understand what you are talking about Cork! No where in my posts did I say that I disagreed with his price. I couldn’t because I don’t even know what the price is!! The second to last post by Mr. Gabriel was

Bump again, price reduced.

Because of this I was asking what the new price for his flute was. In reply he said

I paid 2015 euro.

To this I replied

yes, but how much were you looking to get for this flute now? you said you wanted 1600 euro for it in the first post and now i’m wondering what you marked the price down to.

No where in there did I say that the price was too high or too low, or anything in between.

Not to mention, I realize that the majority of the people on C&F aren’t here to sell instruments, but the title of this thread is “FS: eight-keyed Reviol”

This leads me to believe that Gabriel wants to sell his flute and I can’t see how he can do this without the buyer knowing the price.

Also, I’m sure that if Gabriel had a problem with our conversation he could address me about it.

Rob

Rob,

Don’t worry about what Cork said-he’s misinterpreting your comments just as Gabriel didn’t understand your question. Nothing you said was disrespectful either. It seemed pretty clear to me why you asked, but that happens a lot on forums where people jump to conclusions.

The problem is that Gabriel was asking closer to his price paid (2000 Euros) when he first listed it, but when he said he lowered the price, he just edited his first post to reflect the new lower price of 1600 Euros.

Stick around-that was nothing!

greenspiderweb-
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I didn’t realize that Gabriel’s original post was edited. I appreciate your help!
Cheers
Rob

Anytime-glad to help. If you look at the bottom of Gabriel’s first post, it says this:

So you can tell in the future. By the way, check your PMs, I sent you one.

Ah, ok. That makes things a lot easier! I looked but I haven’t gotten the PM yet.

got it

OK, Rob, I meant everything I have said, and with all due respect to you, but just because the thread began with a for sale sign, please consider that not every seller on this board could be in the business of selling flutes, and that therefore perhaps some measure of consideration could apply, especially to an established member of this board. That is, if you are not satisfied with the price as offered, then simply do nothing, and you will not be disappointed.

I’d like to think that this is more a player’s forum, and less a seller’s forum.

So, let’s be players, please.

@irish69:

Perhaps this post, as above, could help to illustrate the difference between artists and merchants.

Please read the posts before you come up with ideas Cork. I obviously didn’t realize the change in the price and I never argued with Gabriel about the price. You’re being redundant. I said in the quote you have in your last post that I know the board isn’t designed for sellers. There is no need for you to restate that for me. If you’re so anxious to be a player, mind your own business, stay away from threads where items are being sold, and go play. As someone once said, if you don’t like it, then leave it alone.

After more than 45 years at playing flute, I certainly am not “anxious” to be a player, Rob, for I can play, thank you, but what about you? Can you play?

As I began to say, moreover, I’d prefer this to be a player’s forum, and not an auction, so goodbye to you and your folly.

Bang bang bang

Hey!

Keep it down up there… can’t ya see we are tryin’ ta sleep in the other threads.
