FS: 8 key Grinter Bb silver and blackwood

Hi All,

Sadly, I am finally putting my big Bb Grinter up for serious sale. Lack of a TAship (job) from UCSD this summer dictates. Asking price is $6000, which no doubt seems like a lot, but this flute is, as far as I know, the only one of its kind (blackwood), and one of very few at all (Grinter Bbs), which are probably the finest fully keyed Bb flutes currently available - played by Kevin Crawford and Damien Stenson (Teada) among others. Except, of course, that they aren’t currently available - you have to hop on a waiting list for several years (don’t know what it is just now, but it was at least 3.5 when I last heard- I waited close to 3 for it 7 years ago). It was made in 2004 I believe (I think that is when I got it). It is a very strong and big flute, responsive and with a lovely Bb tone. All keys work well. It is a heavy flute. Please let me know if you’ve any questions, but, as usual, negotiations and offers (which will be considered) by PM or email bepoq1 AT gmail. I am sorry to sell it. I do play it and enjoy it very much, but I don’t play it enough to keep in hard times (that is it must go so other things can be saved).

Best,

Ben

PS. I observe that I took the photos before reattaching the pewter plugs after a bit of cleaning. They are now back on. If anyone is worried about that, PM or email me and I’ll send you a pic.

Hmmm. Photos don’t seem to have worked. If anyone’s got a clue what has to change I’d be obliged. In the meantime, they are here:

as mentioned, I’ll entertain offers. I’ll try and get some sound up somewhere soon.

Cheers,

I’ve got one of the few of these. I might sell it one day … but probably not. The economy has to get a whole lot worse first. My point is that these are great instruments and you should snap this up if you can.
Just my 2cents,

This has your name all over it rama… :smiling_imp:

nah loren i’m quite happy with mine. it’s in red lancewood. fantastic flutes. puts you into another world playing one. now a ‘c’ or ‘b’ flute would interest me.
sorry to see beqoq putting his up 4 sale. not an easy decision for sure. good luck with the sale.

thanks guys, much obliged (it is a good flute and a hard decision)

still trying to arrange a recording - bump

who made your red lancewood one Rama?

it is also made by mike grinter

bepoq:

Can you give us a vague idea of how much you really want for the Grinter?

Pat

In his original post, Ben said he was asking $6K. Don’t know if that’s changed, but it’s certainly a reasonable price for the flute.

Personally I think it’s a tragedy that a great player like Ben has to give up a once-in-a-lifetime flute like this…in a better world we’d all pool our resources and pay him to keep it.

Too generous Brad (about both playing and the idea), but thanks very much for a lovely thought.
Thanks for the backup on price Brendan

Ok, I managed to drop into the studio last night and drop down a not very well played track - I’ll try and get it up in the next few days, so watch this space.

Cheers,

Ben

(no worries Talasiga)

Ben, please check your PMs.

Hi All,

Have limped on without selling this, but living off the credit card this summer was tough and I’m still paying. Anyway, it’s still up for sale and here are a couple of samples. Don’t expect too much, one take each straight into the sony, no digital manipulation, and that on a flute I’ve not picked up for almost 6 months (which is significant with this flute I’ve found) - not that I’ve been playing much at all come to that - graduate school is rough at the mo’.

Anyway, as I said before, I will entertain offers.

Hey MT, would you mind reactivating the exchange post?
