FS - Bernard Overton High D

Hey All

I am considering selling my Overton High D to help finance an Olwell flute. The whistle was made in 1997 and I have owned it since then. It has your typical Overton sound, nice and bright, and takes a little bit more air to get the high notes than the likes of a Burke, but it’ s worth the effort.

I mention this next bit not because I think it’ll add to the value of the instrument, but just so that any prospective buyer has a bit of life history. This whistle was used by me in the recording of 3 albums with the band Malinky, those being Last Leaves (CDTRAX190), 3 Ravens (CDTAX233) and The Unseen Hours (CDTRAX276) and it was also used in a recording with Tim O’Brien on the album Fishing Music (Snake River Records (761403311628)). As such, it has played a small but interesting part in the recent history of Scottish music. Like I say, this is for the sake of conversation rather than for big bucks.

This whistle is a “proper” Overton (it’s not got a Goldie stamp, and I was led to believe that it was made by Bernard Overton when I bought it) and although it may increase in value over time the honest truth is that I rarely use it these days (as my Burke has turned me into a lazy whistle player).

I’m offering it for sale here rather than ebay, as I’d like it to go to a musician who’ll treasure it and play it a bit more than I do.

In terms of price, I’d like to get £150 for it, but would prefer to discuss via email or pm. It is an Overton with a good track record and no tedious waiting!

I’ll be delighted to provide pics for anyone who is interested.

Hey M.D. I went to this Malinki site and found this clip that I think is your D whistle.

Nice sound

Steve

Thanks, man. That’s the very whistle!

Being played by “the guy from Malinky” doesn’t have the same cachet as being played by Planxty or Lunasa, but it’s nice to know that it has had an interesting life thus far!

Wait a minute Mark - I happen to think Malinky have as much going for them as the bands you mention  Great sound - except the guy that plays the bodhran…
