Overton Low D Whistle help! Possibly FS!

Hi guys,

Im just wondering if someone could advise me for a good price to sell my Overton low D whistle. The whistle itself is in fair condition but still plays fantastic!

Some pictures -

Any help you can give would be great! Or if someone wants to make me an offer please send a P.M!

Slan, Chris!

I do not know why anyone would pay more than $5.00 for a whistle.

Therefore, I will take it off your hands for $4.99

Honestly, I’ve bought and sold a lot of whistles, but never an Overton low d, so I can’t tell what I think it’d go for.

I bought one for 90 euros and that’s supposed to be cheap for an Overton. It also differs whether you have one of Bernard Overton or of Colin Goldie. Look at the their website and you’ll find the newprice. I guess they keep their value as they are quite popular (Brian Finnigan of Flook plays Colin’s Overtons and Finbar Furey of course made Bernards so popular). Don’t sell it too soon, their tone is unique!

On this board, my experience has been that a whistle in perfect condition can be sold for around 70% of it’s new price. An unpopular make or something with more use would probably bring less.

Exchange rate from Colin’s Germany is a killer, at the moment. The devil is in this exchange rate, plus shipping.

Your photos show a whistle that has been around the block a few times. I cannot tell the condition of the mouthpiece from those photos. If all is well in that area, between $125 and $175 US would probably be fair.

Anyone interested would probably wish to know whether this is a standard back-pressure Overton, or one that has lower back-pressure.

Best.

125.00-----175.00-------------good range-but you will need clear upfront pictures

ill take it for 5.01. i think we are gonna have a bidding war. sorry, i dont know too much about Overtons.

I sold one just like yours on eBay a year ago for $140.

Ditto-last year I sold mine for $150 including shipping and it was very close to new. $175 would have been closer to the value, but if yours has seen better days, then yes, below $150 would be a fair price.

A lot of what is fair is what you paid for it-how long you’ve had it, and how much playing you got out of it. It’s not real estate.

When you say “Fair condition” what do you mean?

It’s pretty tough to hurt an Overton.

I’d say the guys are giving you good numbers if it’s in good shape.

Doc

Hi guys, Sorry not replyed sooner!

I bought the Overton from a starving fellow trad student on the music course at uni (I didnt major in trad music…but jazz?? :sunglasses: ) I have owned it the last 4 years and it has been involved in some heavy giging & touring - hence i have not kept up the polishing ect on the body and the metal is pitted and marked it a few various areas (Sorry hope i have not upset any Overton diehards! :astonished: ) See the 3 & 4th pictures for pitting.
All in all the whistle still sounds fantastic! same as the day i bought it! I will post up a dodgy recording of me playing it sortly!

The fair condition refers to as described above…I have giged a fair bit with the Overton in Ireland/USA/Europe ect!
You are right about the toughness of it…its done well!

I have decided that i will sell the Overton for $100 or same value in £ or Euros (+ P&P depending on your location!)

I will post up some better pictures close up ASAP (mouthpiece ect!)

Slan, Chris!
