CP: Boisvert, O'Grady, Kilberry Pipes on eBay

Hi Gang,

I bought the narrow bore Boisvert chanter recently offered here. I quite like it but am selling it to assuage my guilt for having recenty purchased a Gallagher B set. This, plus my D set are more than I can manage at this time. Several fellows imediately asked me to sell it to them when I bought it so I thought it best to put it on eBay and give everyone a fair shake at it. There is no reserve and the starting price is $.01.

I also listed an O’Grady 1/2 set and a set of SSP (scheduled to start tomorrow) from the store.

Good luck with the sale, Doc.

I certainly would go for the Boisvert narrow D chanter, but I got email from Mr. Rogge yesterday saying that my own narrow D chanter is done…

Hi!
I had someone that was very interestead in this chanter when John had it up fore sale. I don’t know if she found something else since then but I’ll sure will let her know it is up for sale again.

The back D seems a bit flat

Q: What do you mean by this? That the back D is flat when the rest of the notes are in tune?
What happens if you adjust the seat hight or move the bridle to open the reed up slightly, will the Back D sharpen and the Bottom D go out of tune?

Cheers!

MarcusR

I am thinking it is almost certainly a reed issue, the reed most probably being one of my earlier efforts in NBD attempts. There is nothing wrong with the chanter as far as I can tell.

A picture of it from a couple of years ago… second from the top..

It may not be a reed issue but rather the proper design of the chanter. With some chanters, to get the back D just right you have to open the C hole (left index finger) as well as the back D. This will bring it up slightly. I’ve heard that with some old flat chanters, this is the only way to play back D.

I’m pretty certain it is a reed issue… O.K., I am absolutely certain.

Hi Marcus,

I’m a serious reed-o-phobe at this point in my development. I don’t feel qualified to do any manipulation of a reed whatsoever. I’m sure someone with a brain and a bit of experience could easily resolve this. I am not that person. I really need to get to a tional but my geography and 24/7 work schedule make it tough.

Understand too that the back D isn’t the reason for the sale.
It’s a really lovely chanter. I have no doubt the back D is resolvable particularly in light of Joseph’s comments.

I’ve been sort of looking for my niche with the pipes and trying some different keys and arrangements. I have a Lynch D set that I love but wanted to try something with more of a “flat set sound”. The narrow bore D is very nice but can’t compete with the “flat set sound” of a B 1/2 set (go figure).

There are just not enough hours in my day for me to play 3 chanters. There may not be enough for me to have two.

Anyway, lovely critter. Bid high and bid often!
