What you want to bet the reserve is $1800?

Anyone know the reasons behind the quick resale?

Dionys

Call me a cynic, but I’d say quick profit.

Jeff

i remember this set being for sale a few months ago with the identical description :astonished:

The description & picture are identical. The new owner says his wife bought it for him as a surprise and that while he enjoys playing the Uilleann Pipes, he wants to concentrate on GHB and has thus decided to sell the set.

He also said the reserve isn’t $1800, so I’m guessing a profit is hoped for. We’ll have to see if anyone grabs at it.

Edited to add similar set link.

The Drones looks like Vignoles. Almost the same style.

Tony,
What was Dunsire talking about “We’re a little worried that some problem exists with the ‘sale’ of these.” What business is it of Dunsire’s? It’s like the Spanish Inquisition over there sometimes.

All was quiet when I posted the link.
It’s in the non-GHB forum and it appears to be a ‘cut & paste’ of the eBay auction.
One member and the Administrator were questioning the identity of the person who posted the sale. It’s his first post under that name and I would guess they might have had a problem with a former member of same/similar first name.

I think Bob just wants to know what’s going on, with these pipes being sold, resold, relisted, and now listed on his site with no reference to the Ebay auction.

I agree Dunsire’s site is a bit jumpy sometimes, but if you’d ever followed RMMB back in the day, you’d know exactly why.

Cheers,
Calum

I am not sure what the problem with other members or with sales of any items on these sites have been, but I am NOT the individual questioned in the dunsire site. I was merely attempting to pass a set of pipes to someone who might be able to make use of them where I will not. I am a GHB piper and do not have the time or intent to take up the Uilleanns. I used the information in the original sales ad because I didn’t know any more info on the pipes.
If anyone in UP land is interested, I am will to sell the pipes at what I think is a good price. However, I will admit that I do not know much about them and cannot actually play them.
Thanks,
Tom308

Bob Dunsire does try very hard to avoid a lot of the problems that occurred on RMMB. Some say he swings to the other extreme though. It is rather reminiscent of the town in the move Pleasantville at times. I must say I find myself hanging out on Dale and Rich’s forums a lot more than Bob Dunsire’s even though I’m primarily a Highland piper.
Cheers,
Aaron

Greetings folks,
This is Larry Morris, newcomer to this forum (though a frequent lurker). I’ve chosen to pick up the pipes in question here from Tom; I’ve had several e-mail exchanges with him and he seems on the up-and-up. Tom recently attended a tionol with Benedict Kohler who played the set and reeded the chanter, and gave them a clean bill of health. I’m looking to move up from my David Daye starter set (which, despite lack of expandability, I give a rousing testimonial to; it’s an awesome learning set for the price).

I’ll post again when I’ve received the set and had a chance to tootle. Doubtless I’ll have many questions for the more seasoned players! I’m also looking to get started on regulators for the set; several folks have suggested the drones are by Vignoles, so I’ll probably talk to him about regs as well.

Happy piping,
-Larry

That chanter sounds great with a Benedict Koehler reed in it. Hey, it sounded pretty darn good with a Lewis Blevins reed in it, too, just was a little sharp in pitch is all. I’ve seen and played the set…good buy…and good bye!

I wish I had known that the set was for sale at the time. I would have plunked the money down then. Best wishes on playing this set.
