Bargain whistle (?)

Is this a bargain? They only have two in the shop - should I rush out and get one?

Only if you have SAS, Sticker Acquisition Syndrome.

All depends on the ‘folding’ Phill the ‘FOLDING’

I tried a slide whistle sold in packaging like that. It didn’t work.

Which was a great pity because the printed material that came with it (intended to teach the very basics of music to small kids) was pretty good.

I was a little disappointed that the manufacturers call it a flute when it looks more like a recorder, and the spacing/size of the holes looks a little too regular to play well.

I was tempted to buy one and post the picture and a clip every time the ‘its not the whistle but the whistler’ discussion comes round. Maybe I could buy some extra and send them to whistle notables - would Joanie still sound like Joanie on one of these? Would Andrea play one on the back of a moped? We need to know  .

I’ve bought 3 or 4 of those cheap $1 plastic recorders over the years. Haven’t found one yet that actually makes a sound!

on the subject of garbage instruments, i have a student that had a dollar store recorder, left it in the sun (or microwave?) too long and melted part of it. surprisingly, it was STILL playable, and almost in tune (for what it was…)
i was quite amazed.
same student came the following week with a different recorder filled with dirt. he buried it in the back yard and just found it that week.
i wish these were jokes. all true.

I suppose one should be thankful it’s instruments he’s savaging, and not the local pets. Or the locals. I’d keep an eye on that fella. :astonished:
