I am planning to go to the Willie Clancy Summer School this year for the first time, mainly to take some classes. Due to work commitments I can’t get there until the evening of Sunday 8th and I will have to leave on the Friday evening (14th). As the classes run to the Saturday, does this cause a problem? Anything in particular I should sign up for, or alternatively avoid like the plague? Sorry for the numpty questions, but everyone’s got to have a first time
Thanks - Jim
You’ll be alright. In fact it can be a good idea to leave on the Friday, the town can get quite boisterous on the last weekend. We plan on leaving on the Thursday. As you are going to classes then you get to listen to the afternoon lectures/music concerts for free. The Mick Coyne afternoon workshops are well worth attending either as a player or just as a listener.
The 1.15 pm piping recitals are in the community hall, but you’ll get all this info and more at your piping class or from other pipers.
on a related note…
if anyone is arriving on the Manchester-Shannon flight late on Friday night (10.30pm) then we’re planning a taxi from the airport up to just north of Milltown Malbay (passing through the centre of town). There’s two of us and a couple of bags so we would have room for one or two people and could split the cost (but you’d need to be on the same flight to guarantee the driver doesn’t leave without you).
Message me privately and I’ll get back to you.
