I’ve got a copper Bb, C, D, E and Eb set coming from David O’Brien. One head, five bodies. I’ve had him make the set with two piece bodies. Heck that’s 11 parts! I hope he marks all the bits with the key to avoid confusion.
I’m saving money for many whistles that I want to buy after december 31. My list is quite long.. Susato Low D, Susato high E, Oak D/C, Sweetone D/C, Dixon Trad D, Walton Mellow D and maybe I’m forgetting 1 or 2
Mack Hoover made me a low-G in mahogany and delrin, (to be a Christmas gift from my wife – won’t I be surprised!). It shipped, but I gotta wait two weeks!
i occasionally scour thift stores and pawn shops. i am waiting to find a alba low d and have the store be clueless as to what it is and sell it to me for $10 or less. i even have a strategy of playing it really badly in the store so that they don’t realize it’s potential.
I’m not waiting for one. I already have, from lowest to highest, a G, Bb, C, D, Eb.
Every once in a while I think about a low D. And sometimes I think why not complete the set and get the F and high G. Ha ha. That would teach my birds a lesson. (as if the Eb wasn’t shrill enough!)
I’m currently quite content with my two favorite whistles, both Burkes, the high brass D, and the magnificent Viper (low aluminum D).
I am however, seriously considering a new mandolin. After many many years of steadfast loyalty to my Martin A model, I’m thinking maybe it’s time to look at something new.
I dunno, maybe it’s a midlife crisis. At least I’m not tempted by red sports cars.
I’m waiting for a nice tunable Overton low F to appear for sale here or at Doc’s. And I’m waiting for someone selling me a set of Abells (D, C, B, Bb, A) for a reasonable price.
But as i turn 30 (yuck) mid january, i’m hoping family gives me the Burke Viper i’ve been wishing for.
On the wishlist are also a Resonance (Low D), a Weasel (or a Busman) (D, possibly D+), and maybe a Low D Every whistle if they get made soon. nudge nudge wink wink
Oh, and if anyone feels like donating a whistle as a birthday present, just pm me.
I’m happy with my current lineup of whistles. I actually trimmed down my collection considerably to just those I really like the sound of. The only two keys I now have duplicates of are Low D and High D now. Low D because the Viper and the Copeland are completely differing in the sound and sometimes I want one over the other. High D because, although I think my sindt is perfect, I practice with the Dixon Trad (it’s my carry anywhere whistle) and I have a Burke in case I need more volume.
After the new year, I may contact David and see if I can get him to make me a head with a little more backpressure. I think his new style is likely different and better than what I currently have and it’s the ONLY complaint I have with the set of whistles I own of his (and that’s the filler for most of the other keys…I’ve always loved his whistles). I own the high backpressure but very quiet head and the no backpressure but loud head (which takes more air than a copeland). I know he’s changed specs since then. That would rid me of the Dixon and the Burke (replacing both with my Rover).
If I really were to get another whistle, it would be a Low C.
