Wanted, Geoff Woof Narrow bore D chanter

Hi
i am after a D narrow bore Woof chanter. I know its a long shot but you never know. Dont fancy waiting until 2025 for my name to reach the top of his list. Name your price

Hi Ferris,

It will be a »tight« result, as they are not for sale often, except sometimes in full sets, but who knows…

If you don’t find one, contact Derrick Gleeson - he can make you NBD in about 2 years (modeled after Geoff Woof NBD’s and as close as possible in tone and craftsmanship) as Geoff told me. Geoff was his mentor - Derrick learned from him.

But don’t be deceived by the mind. If you can, try one and listen only your ears. For 3 years I was in search for Woof NBD (just by idea to have softer, warmer and mellow sounding D) without being able to try one, and only then I found that the sound and charachter I am searching from very beggining is actualy original short scalloped Rowsome chanter – I am still waiting the money to afford it and then order it.

NBD’s can be a bit trickier to reed and tune then Concert D’s, but the Woof design is probably best and have the “live” factor that some other NBDs are lacking.

Wish you luck, Best, AA

as they are not for sale often

They do change hands regularly, there was one up for sale in An Piobaire fairly recently, enquiries to the NPU archivist if I remember correctly.

Derrick hasn’t been doing the Ds all that long, a year ago I entertained a notion that maybe I should go out more and get a D to play with other people (realising I would never be at ease with my attempts at playing the flute in public or otherwise)).

I talked to Derrick at the time (a quick chat outside the local Londis really) and at that point he was thinking of having a crack at the D soon. I would have happily moved forward if he had been more definite about it then. However I soon after got an offer from the man himself (after he had a good laugh at me first) that was very hard to refuse and a 3/4 set is being voiced and set up for me as we speak, but that’s maybe a story for another day (I’ll report back on that shortly).
