Can anyone identify the maker of the Uilleann “Pips” currently being advertised on Ebay? One would think the seller should know, but that is not apparent from the listing . . .

These pipes are rare and beautiful.
I agree with "beautiful … but are they really that rare? I’ve seen some already!
i understand they’re by charles roberts
These must be the set of pipes played by “Patty Keeman“ of the legendary “Boffy Band”!
Right?
Cheers!

a set of training Uilleann Pipes. Included: box, leather knee pad, pipe set (please see pic 2 as I do not know how best to describe them)
…
“Training” pipes?
Leather knee pad?
He’s right - he DOESN’T know how to describe them. That might explain the fact that he’s got 10 bids - someone’s after a deal.
Perhaps English isn’t his first language..

WOW 292 pounds. That is over $600 cdn allready. and it isn’t finished
And yet somehow he spelled “Uilleann” right??? Go figure.
J.
Do you think this sounds like someone
who will disclaim any knowledge of
obvious damage after the goods are
delivered? Not that I’m saying this seller
is doing that but this is eBay.

Well, someone on the board posts the opinion that they are Charles Roberts pipes, and I received a private email with strong evidence that they are by Eugene Lambe. Both respected makers of prized instruments. I suspect this set has not reached its limit yet.
Concerning other posts suggesting they might not be in good condition, Hey, its Ebay, caveat emptor!
The seller sent me an email and said that they are marked as Roberts pipes on the bellows .. I’m too far away too take his word for it !!
That’s why Ebay has escrow companies available. If the item isn’t as represented, you send them back and the escrow company sends back your money.

The Ebay escrow service is only useful if the seller agrees to use it, though.
Stay tuned,

If the buyer is paying for the escrow service and the seller is unwilling to use escrow, that would be a giant red flag for me. I would inform ebay that the seller was unwilling to use a secure transaction and exit the transaction.

Escrow is useless if one is worried about the product. It is helpful if one is worried that something will be delivered. What actually is delivered gets one back in to the “caveat emptor” world.
