The Seagull and the Duck

It doesn’t look like a seagull or a duck to me.
I think it’s Great A’Tuin, the star turtle, swimming through the cosmos. She’s even smiling. I don’t see the elephants on her back, though.

(If this post doesn’t make sense to you, you need to read more, specifically the “Discworld” series of books by Terry Pratchett. )

Read the Diskworld series anyway. They’re great fun. The “Seagull” looks more like a swallow to me, and the “duck” like a beetle that has been stepped on. Still, it’s not worth arguing with these astronomer types. Their eyesight is destroyed from peering through telescopes and trying to make out stereo star photographs.

No such bird as a “Seagull” there is a marine engine but it looks totally different.

No such bird as a seagull? The internetweb-thingy seems to think there is.

Ain’t my fault they’re wrong. From wikipedia

Gulls (> often informally called seagulls) > are birds in the family Laridae

No such thing as a Greater Black-backed Seagull, it’s Greater Black-backed Gull, see?

:open_mouth: , i am, I must shyly admit a renowned Brittish Seagull “Expert”,
they drove me to take up the uilleann pipes :frowning:
and oars
Tansy

Wiki never said they were wrong. It only said they were informal.

http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gull Simple wikipedia isn’t so snotty.

Gulls, also called seagulls, are birds.

“Seagull” has no taxonomic significance, there are no bird species called seagull. Many gull species don’t even live on a sea or near a sea, sealessgulls, lakegulls, riverinegulls, rapariangulls. Some gull species are so successful other species find them galling.

I always liked the bay gulls. Toasted, with cream cheese.

(I know, that’s an old joke, but it was set up so perfectly I couldn’t resist.)

deserved it, it did!

Baygulls love salmon too, lox and lox of salmon.

I’m sorry I apparently misspelled lochs.

I’m e mailing this to everyone I know. Too funny.

I almost didn’t click on this for fear it was going to be Tragic and Heartwrenching.

moi?

Oh, it is, it is. All this talk of gulls, and the duck is ignored. Typical.

what duck?

DUCK!

I dunno. There’s Larry Seagull. There’s Clancy Seagull. There’s Steve Seagull. Seagull and Gale, Seagull and Drossner…
Plenty of Seagulls. :poke:

My favorite gul species:
