The Official 'Why I'm Thankful for Chiff and Fipple' thread

End of the year. Time to take stock.

\

  1. The opening of my eyes to all sorts of new music.

  2. The hanging out with so many different people from all over the world.

  3. The fact that there is almost always someone who knows something about something we need help with (eg. geek oracles)

  4. I can discuss whistle minutiae and no one will roll his eyes.

Feel free to add to the list.

I’m thankful for C&F because:

I can make really awful puns without getting smacked upside the head. (Unlike at home, where my wife thinks the only good pun is a dead punstrel.)

Slude, I’ve been trying to smack you for months, but it’s doing my iBook no good at all and I’m trying to restrain myself.

I like all the extra, goofy stuff, especially the humor. I am always amazed at how smart and funny this group is, and what good writers there are. Oh, and the beat. You can dance to it.

Carol

That’s 'cause I’m running a firewall on my iBook. Neener, neener, neener! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m thankful to be in contact with so many unique and talented people. There’s never a really dull moment around here, and always plenty of stuff to learn.

I’m thankful for the many virtual “friends” I’ve made here - and the ones I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in person.

I’m thankful for all the information I’ve found out by reading threads on this site. I especially enjoy learning about those in other countries.

I’m thankful for Dale putting up with all of us.

For me it’s all about the people. The diversity of opinions, backgrounds, beliefs and musical tastes.
The humility and politeness rarely found on message boards.
The depth of knowledge openly shared without seeking anything in return.

But again, above all else, it is the people.

Slan,
D.

I’m afraid I have to disagree.

Sorry djm. Soylent Green is people.

I love how Carol praises by example.

I am glad that this is a place where a smart ass like me can be serious
about something, and then be incredibly silly about other things. I mean,
I’d hate to have to go to two places for that… why the gas cost, alone…

I am thankful for Chiff and Fipple because:

  1. It gives me a good reason to avoid work that I should be doing.

  2. It constantly reminds me that there are a lot of people who are smarter and more knowledgeable than I am.

  3. It also reminds me that there are many people who are genuinely considerate and helpful.

  4. I can sit in my easy chair and feel very much connected to interesting people around the world. In contrast to TV, which isn’t inteactive, if you say something stupid on the C & F pub, someone is going to set you straight real soon.

  5. I enjoy the evolution of long threads that seem to have a life of their own. Who knows what direction they may take and where they will finally end up.

I am thankfull to C&F for

Pointing me to music / resources that I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

Giving me many a good laugh - especially the political forum.

And most of all the ananchic band of idiots (myself included) that inhabit this part of cyberspace.

merry Christmas and Happy New year all.

David

That is why my wife HATES C&F!!!

This place has given me a place to spend THOUSANDS of hard “earned” California equity dollars.

Reminds me of when I was in 7th grade and they started dividing us into tracks, and I suddenly realized, a bit to my dismay, that I wasn’t nearly as smart as I thought I was.
Here, on C&F, there is no chance of my slipping back into that lazy conceit.

Not originally. In the story “Make Room! Make Room!” by Harry Harrison, it simply meant a food made from soy beans and lentils. The “people” bit was added to the movie as a bit of pure Hollywood.

I’m thankful for Hip, Hip! and post count obsessions, for poetry and puns, for moderators and peacemakers, for glimpses into daily life and a wide world’s worth of different viewpoints to explore, for funny pictures and lovely photos, for welcoming hellos and heartfelt goodbyes, thoughtful counsel and flippant digression, for postructuralism and deconstruction, oracles and oration, for memorials and memories, avatars and arguments, for point and counterpoint, news of firsts and festivals and feasts, for venting of frustration and soothing of pain, for seasons and songs, weather and websites, for wit and woe and wisdom and weirdness and whimsy, for apologies and accolades, history lessons and hilarious spoofs, harangues and homilies, for bombast and brilliance, charity and caring, cheers and charm … and for much more. I’m thankful for the roots and rhythms of this place: the love of music that sings and flows through every page, harmonizing, blending into the unique polyphony that is the Chiffboard. It’s all here: It’s all of you.

For all the new information I’ve gained (some of it even about music)
For proving that Americans are people and not a stereotype
For teaching me to laugh quietly (most of the time) while I’m at work
and most of all…
For caring

… since when? Better have another look mate.

I really couldn’t express it any better than that.
