Site changes suggestion

Since Dale has mentioned at some point he’d like to re-vamp Chiff and Fipple, I thought I’d share a few ideas I had, in no particular order.

Many people have mentioned setting the messageboard as the primary site. I think this is a good idea given that the whistle information pages and newsletters are no longer current.

I’d also like to see the establishment of a “knowledgebase” sub-forum where each instrument maker has a thread, and whenever someone posts a review of an instrument, they can cross post to the appropriate knowledgebase thread as well. This will crowd-source the information on the makers such that it is more current and more detailed than any one person would make. (I’d recommend discussion threads take place outside the knowledgebase forum so that threads wouldn’t be clogged up with conversation; just reviews.)

There’ll be no update anyway soon I surmise from Dale’s comments on the ChiffnFipple Facebook page as the last server crash was fixed with a lot of good will and a main server fan belt was replaced with a pantyhose from the emergency $tash box  A contribution icon could generate quite a few hits by regulars here but there isn’t one to be found on the site!

If/When a change does come about, I would like to suggest an area for newbies to post. As a newbie myself, I feel a little lost and am not sure where I am welcome and where my very basic, clueless questions would be welcome. Folks that are knowledgable and want to be bothered by newbies could go to that area, and those who don’t want to deal with them (me) could just ignore that area.

Cheers,
Vic

You - and any other newbies - are welcome anywhere on the site, Vic. Feel free to post your questions in the relevant forum - whistle for whistle questions, flute for flute questions etc - and I’m sure folks will be more than happy to help.

The C&F site works fine. Don’t fix it.
