Registration is now open for the 2009 West Coast (USA) Tionol in San Francisco. (Well, actually, it’s in Berkeley again – same place as last time.) Emmett Gill will be the guest piper.
Great! Glad to hear the SF Tionól is a “go” for 2009. Nice to know that I don’t have to be worried about being molested in front of the Freight & Salvage this time.
The SF tionol is shaping up to be an interesting one as, in lieu of a Sat nite concert, Fr. d’Arcy will be required to pay his “debt to society” by wearing nothing but a red, white, and blue striped mens thong for a leisurely stroll down Castro Street.
hey you SF piper guys–
My mail to the address listed in the announcement of the tionol bounced. Twice. I’m pretty sure I typed it right.
Maybe there’s a problem. Meanwhile I sent my question (which concerns the welcome-ness of non-piper but musician spouses at the tionol) to the officers as listed on the club contact page.’
I must say I had doubts after reading the SF Tionol organization thread back in November that this one would was going to be held this year so when I saw that it was on I got really excited. Now that there will extracurricular functions taking place at the S&G in the Castro there are entirely new reasons to get excited
Meanwhile I sent my question (which concerns the welcome-ness of non-piper but musician spouses at the tionol) to the officers as listed on the club contact page.’
Why, yes, non piper musician spouses are welcome… there is to be a special session on the Farallon Islands while the tionol is taking place and I’d strongly suggest atendance.
I’m considering attending; someone has gotta represent for the Salt Lake Pipers Club and do all that heavy lifting (lifting pints I mean). I guess I’m the designated liver!
Any suggestions, offers, warnings and /or threats in regard to very cheap accomodations for a lone piper for Friday and Saturday. Also, I’m not sure about how spread out the venues are. Can I hoof it on foot or do I need some form of more modern conveyance, like a mule or a rickshaw, to get around?
That would be great if you can come out for the tionol. The good news is that the two homes where we will hold the tionol (one for the Friday night party and the other for everything else) are not far apart. The bad news is that I’m not aware of any cheap accomodations nearby. You could probably walk to both places from the Claremont Resort but that’s not cheap. Send me an email or PM if you want the addresses. I’m not very familiar with that area so I can’t suggest anything specific. If you’re still stuck, I might also be able to point you at someone who knows the area better.
OK, last reminder about the early registration discount: send it in this week!
And, even if you prefer to pay when you get here, please send a note to tionol@sfpipersclub.org to let us know that you’re planning to come. It helps a lot to know how many people to expect. Thanks.
