I will swap ye ma “secret soup” recepie for ye pipes. A fair swap I’ll say!
4 Regs. Nice.
Why are you selling them?
I’ll be posting the two sets up on eBAY this Monday. Reserve price for each set will be $9,999.
… Seriously though, best of luck to you on those. I’m sure we’d all love to see pics of the restored willie set. If you’d like to forward them to me, I’ll host them on my website and post them on the this topic.
God Bless,
David
Patrick D’Arcy has some of the Rowsome pics up on his site.

Youll be lucky........i doubt if there
s a set of uilleann pipes in the world worth that much.
These two certainly are.

Where have you been for the last ten years?
Players would do anything to get the right set for them,
collectors will pay very high prices for Taylor sets, or old sets in
good condition.
People will also pay high prices for sets from makers that have extended
waiting lists such as Woof and Froment.
I have a very special set of C pipes made by Alain Froment, I might part
with them for USD$30,000, but I’d have had to be involved in an accident
with the loss of both my hands first.
These sets of pipes will sell, you’ll see.
A lot of new pipes are $10, 000.
Is that so,
mines are 4000 euro’s
carel
I think that the difference here is the two pipes being offered are rare, and in the case of the Willie Rowsome Bb set, antique. The other set is a concert pitched Froment w/4 regulators…another awsome example of pipe making at its highest.
I think the reserve is set at a fair price for either of these two UPs… I just wish I had the jing to buy 'em myself.
Would blackmail or extortion be any good in getting my hands on either set?
I would sell/swap either a kidney or Testicle(or both)
How about if I hold my breath until the vendor gives in to my demands
Is the 4th reg a double bass reg?
Yes, the 4th reg is a double regulator.
I am trying to max any sale that I make, hope that the buyer is satisfied, and follow the rigorous realities of the marketplace (supply and demand). Pipes like any other item finds its watermark for pricing.
Four years ago, I inquired once about a set that I had heard might be available for 10K; I was told the price was 20K. Geoff’s 25th anniversary set went for 25K. The owner of a Kenna set that I know in the US wants to ‘set a record’ for its sale and is prepared to hold on to them until that happens.
The Euro has been pounding the dollar, so the advantage might be to someone with that currency.
The marketplace for pipes, now, is a lot vaster and wider than almost I can imagine. eBAY has changed the dynamics of many collector/interest categories with its worldwide reach, ease of bidding, and electronic payment systems.
Why buy a great set? Especially when one is taken over with pipes and Irish music, replacing a modest instrument with a great one can really highten satisfaction and enjoyment. Also, these instruments do appreciate in value and, if you can enjoy your investment, it can be the best of both worlds. And, don’t forget that your current set/half set/practice set can likely be sold at a profit (!?) to offset your purchase.
If I had the jing you’d have to beat me to it! Good luck with the sale, Jim.

Jim,
aye, but there’s the rub in my mind - how do they actually sound? I’m particularly wondering about that Rowsome set (not that I could afford it at the moment). I’ve heard great things about Brad’s chanters, but how does the set sound altogether in terms of balance between the drones, regs and chanters? Any sound files of the set going full bore that we could hear for posterity’s sake?
Curiously,
Mark
I’ve seen the Rowsome Bb set up close and “in the flesh” in Brad’s workshop. The pictures on Patrick’s site don’t do it justice. I guarantee somebody is going to wind up being very pleased with it.
It’ll be interesting to see how much these two sets go for…
I think having Brad make the chanter was a good or propably even the best choice cause what I saw his copies are exellent and he has a very sure feeling for taste.
The balancing is a matter of the reedmaking only - so thats by no means fixed.
Just another story: I bought this vintage-chanter some months ago that was reeded by Brad Angus. After all the way over the Atlantic we inserted the reed and it played like a bell! Very impressive!
Best

Just to eliminate all doubt - the W Rowsome set was completely restored by Brad Angus, he made new chanter basing that external design on the photo of Willie (the only photo of Willie with pipes) and the internal bore on a Woof/Harrington, he reeded it all up, and the set plays great. There is always a pause to wonder how it will all turn out when a restoration is contemplated; this one came through with flying colors. This is a nice working set of pipes.
The details on the set are really exceptional - the stock, and all of the trim piece in ivory and brass. Brad used mammoth ivory for the chanter.
