Would it be possible for someone to post a picture of a Burke ‘D’ aluminum pro narrow bore? If possible one with the new black tipped headpiece and to show the head close up.
Also if anyone has a photo of the brass version, I would like to see that also. Unfortunately Burke’s web site doesn’t include many photos so it’s hard to get a feeling for what they look like.
Zinger, I have a Brass Pro Session D. I don’t have a photo of it, but can tell you it’s gorgeous, plays beautifully, and that you can’t go wrong with one.
Those photos lixnaw referred to are of the Brass Pro Narrow Bore. The Aluminum NB is almost identical. They are both beautiful, exquisitely tooled instruments.
The strength of Michael’s whistles is in their accurate tuning and ease of playing. Switching from a cheap whistle to a Burke is probably like switching from my Ford Escort to a Ferrari. I say probably, because Michael hasn’t let me drive his Ferrari yet.
The only risk of ownership i’m aware of is that the ruber ring in the slide may get stuck, but that only happens if you leave your whistle unplayed. Just make sure you move the slide from time to time, and you’ll be fine.
Thanks for all the input. They really look like quality whistles. Could someone tell me the main difference between the brass and the alum. as far as the sound goes?
Also, I would imagine that the narrow bores are designed to be quieter. How do they compare in this aspect to a Dixon D?
My brass narrow bore is slightly quieter than the aluminum and both are significantly quieter than the Pro Session. Also, there is a very subtle difference in tone between the brass and aluminum, which defies description. I haven’t played a Dixon, so I can’t compare it to the Burkes.
Just got a new brass Session High D with a black Delrin tip on the mouthpiece from Michael Burke. Absolutely the finest High whistle made today in my opinion, and it looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous. Worth every penny of the $120.00 I paid for it! The whistle is VERY solid feeling and delivery was just a matter of 2 or three days. It is his newest whistle, and what a beautiful instrument it is! And soooooo EASY to play!
You just can’t beat the quality of this whistle. I highly recommend it. And now you don’t have to place the brass tip in your mouth. It is comfortable and well balanced. Very nice, I assure you!
