OK guys - this is just to test the waters here and see if this might work for what I need. You see, recently several unexpected things have popped up in my life that require a bit more money than I have at hand to take care of, so unfortunately for me, it’s looking like I can either sell a kidney, or an O’Riordan (All I have left you see…that is, unless any of you independently wealthy kind souls would like to make an annonymous donation.)
So I’m just curious to know if any of you might be interested in the O’Riordan Low D I just received from Pat about a month ago. This is the three peice ‘Traveller’ series in black anodized aluminum with nickel rings. The whistle is gorgeous and if I had either a digital camera, or a scanner that worked, I’d figure out how to post pictures. Just to reitterate, this is a brand new whistle, with probably less than an hours playing time all told.
Anyway, I’d like to ask $300 O.B.O. She’s a really great whistle and I loathe selling the old girl! (well, new girl, but that just doesn’t sound right) But I’m REALLY hurting to make ends meet this month for reasons I won’t get into here…and this is much like selling a child, so the traumatic stress is two-fold. BUT, it’s not the end of the world, and hey! One of you just may end up with an AWESOME new low whistle.
I’ll include the paperwork and the case Pat sent with it (stitched heavy cordeuroy) and will ship anywhere you’d like on the planet. All I ask is that you factor in the cost of shipping into the final agreed upon price. Insurance would be prudent too. Just as an FYI, I do NOT use UPS, as I prefer the USPS. Better service, and much less chance of ending up with a mangled mass of metal when it reaches it’s destination.
So. heavy sigh Any takers? Please email me off list with any questions and/or offers. Thanks.
Just a note guys. I don’t know Brian, but I do have the same whistle. It is quite beautiful and I find it perhaps the easiest playing Low D (compared to Overton, Copeland, O’Briain, Kerry), maybe because of the relatively small finger holes and well balanced octaves.
I know I sound crazy for doing this, and if there was any other way I’d take it…but I’m afraid I’ve got to stick to this one. I’m planning on giving this about a week or so I think…we’ll see how it goes. $450 is where it stands at present.
I think I forgot to mention a few of the whistles characteristics that some folks have asked about - sorry!
This is the three piece design (in D of course) which if interested, you can order an Eb keytube from Patrick and use it with the same head and foot joint interchangeably. The tone is VERY mellow, and quite well balanced across both octaves. A bit flutey…or at least on the breathy side. Reminds me in some ways of the Grinter sound on the Lunasa albums.
Being aluminum, it is very light weight, and of course, breaks down into quite a compact size. I’d say it about as long as a soprano D when it’s all rolled up in it’s case. The headjoint is engraved as follows:
Pat O’Riordan
2003
LB-130
…and on the end of the fipple block: 4
I dunno what it all means. Probably some crystal people code or some such thing.
When I talked to Pat about this a few weeks ago, he mentioned that it wasn’t always necessary to send the original whistle back. He offered to send a tube to try and see if it fit - only if there was a problem with the joints then would you need to send it in. Either way, it’s not a big deal, and the Eb’s I’ve heard were indeed very nice…much like the D.
All I can say is that if this ever happens to me again in the future, I do believe I’ll resort first to cutting off fingers, as I think it will be less traumatic for me! I think It’s all about wrapped up for now. If anyone is interested in a go, you are of course welcome to email me. If not, I think as of Wednesday evening (mountain time) I’ll call it all good and done.
Again, please let me express my deepest appreciation and thanks to all who have responded. Life’s curve balls aren’t always easy to see coming or to hit, but I think, with all of your help, I’ll manage to swack this one way out back into the outfield.
Unless any further offers happen to appear before bed tonight…I think I’ll call things good. Feel free to email with any questions. And THANK AGAIN to all who have offered their support, and interest.
