Hi,
Here is my latest eBay flute; it is made in Paris around 1830’s by
Thibouville Pere & fils. The keywork are silver, mounted on little creasent plates. Had to make one of them, can you guess which one is new? The rings on the Barrel are replacements, made from a Hippo tooth! Smells like a trip to the dentist, when you are cutting it.
Here is the before photo, this is what it looked like Thursday..
So even "fire wood"can be restored!
Haven’t got a tune out of it yet, still don’t know how the tuning is.
fair play to you, another old one rescued!
where did you acquire the hippo tooth?
wouldn’t fancy being a hippo dentist myself - i hear they’ve awful breath.
cheers,
dave
Beautiful job, Jon. Congratulations. If it doesn’t play beautifully for you, it’s just god-damn ungrateful! Can we have sound clips when you do get it speaking?
I popped down to Africa and bagged me one! No, I bought it at the Boone trading co.
Thanks, it will be interesting to see what the tuning is on a early French flute.
I will try to get my recording equipment to work…
Nice C key replacement. Did you have to replace a lot of posts as well?
Kevin Krell
Thanks, no all the posts were there luckily, I just had to re-attach them. The C key got a whole new plate, as the other one melted down..
