Hi,
It has been a while since I showed off one of my antiques.
This is a flute made by Meacham & Comp /Albany, probably maed in 1827. Pond joined up with Meacham in 1828, and later left and joined up with Firth and Hall. I have a friend that has a Meacham & Pond, there is a lot of similarities in both these flutes.
these american flutes are unique, as they have better tuning then there English counterparts. They also had a tenedency to have a deeper chimney on the Emb. hole, it is a real chunky flute!
Kind of a rare flute, not to many kicking around. anyone ever play one?
The barrel is the original, as with a lot of antique flutes, you will have different color woods on the same flutes.
Annvil you are always welcome, gives me a good excuse to pull out the 30 some odd flutes, I will even bring snacks!
We will see about clips…
Hi,
Still a little quirky in the tuning department, but I would say not as bad as some I have come across. You still have the F# about 20 cents on the flat side, so the old fingering would help.
Peri, I think the discoloration is from the vapor trail from my sloppy embouchure, not from a lefty. It also shows up more with flash photography.
niiiiice now where is that drooling button when you need it
THIRTY something flutes??? faints and I really pity you…having such a chore to play them all to keep them in condition
sheesh.
I have a Meacham and Pond 1-key boxwood flute and I love the sound even better than my Baack 1-key in cocus. Both were restored by Kara Locheridge, she did a great job. They both are great flutes, I just wish I knew how to play them:)
Cheers:)
