My Latest eBay flute Meacham & Comp/ Albany, NY

Hi,
It has been a while since I showed off one of my antiques.
This is a flute made by Meacham & Comp /Albany, probably maed in 1827. Pond joined up with Meacham in 1828, and later left and joined up with Firth and Hall. I have a friend that has a Meacham & Pond, there is a lot of similarities in both these flutes.

these american flutes are unique, as they have better tuning then there English counterparts. They also had a tenedency to have a deeper chimney on the Emb. hole, it is a real chunky flute!
Kind of a rare flute, not to many kicking around. anyone ever play one?

Very pretty, Jon, sexy, even; tres Rudallesque!

Y’know, you’re going to have to start posting some sound demo clips as well as the lichen-pics!

Lovely. Is the tuning barrel new wood? The keys seem a tad yellowish, real silver? Nice work.

Hurrah!

When can I come over and play it!?!

The barrel is the original, as with a lot of antique flutes, you will have different color woods on the same flutes.
Annvil you are always welcome, gives me a good excuse to pull out the 30 some odd flutes, I will even bring snacks!
We will see about clips…

Intresting. Can you say in what way. Avoiding the ‘flat foot’ on earlier English flutes maybe. Still would need old fingering?

hmm… looking at the discoloration from wear and saliva on the emb. might this have been played regularly left handed?

Hi,
Still a little quirky in the tuning department, but I would say not as bad as some I have come across. You still have the F# about 20 cents on the flat side, so the old fingering would help.
Peri, I think the discoloration is from the vapor trail from my sloppy embouchure, not from a lefty. It also shows up more with flash photography.

niiiiice now where is that drooling button when you need it
THIRTY something flutes??? faints and I really pity you…having such a chore to play them all to keep them in condition
sheesh.

berti

Jon has minions that come over to help

Annvil, Denny is calling you a Minon!

I’m more like a fillet minon actually.

Its the bacon wrapped about my middle that is the tip off.

Mazel Tov!

this hole thing is a bad spell

I know what I’m doing.

I am a professional.

Kids don’t try this at home.

:tomato:

Which reminds me.

While out on a date once, my dinner partner actually asked me what the “Fill-et Mig-non” was.

I didn’t correct her… is was a REAL good date as I recall.

there are many times when intelligence is highly overrated

I have a Meacham and Pond 1-key boxwood flute and I love the sound even better than my Baack 1-key in cocus. Both were restored by Kara Locheridge, she did a great job. They both are great flutes, I just wish I knew how to play them:)
Cheers:)
