Meet at Milwaukee Irish Fest

Want to meet forum members from Chiff & Fipple, Gaelic Crossings, Praise Whistlers Abroad, or Stacey’s Innersanctum? Irish Fest Milwaukee is being held August 18-21 this year. I, my Chiff &Fipple Tee Shirt, and some of my whistles will be at a table just inside the South Gate (near the Marcus Amphitheater) Sunday Morning from 9:30 till ? during and after the Sunday Liturgy. Come early and bring a canned goods donation for free entry. Check the Fest entertainment lineup. See www.irishfest.com for details about the festival.

Each year several of us bring our bags of whistles, flutes, and other assorted items so others can see, hear, and sample some of the instruments they’ve read about on their favorite forum. Last year about 25 people dropped by to chat. We’re not a part of the Fest, just friends meeting to swap stories and experiences before the day’s performances begin.

If Saturday is more convenient let me know and we can set up a time for Saturday too.

I’ll try to stop by

Hey Duffy,

I enjoyed out get together last summer. I’m traveling with three other people to the festival and as of now the plan is to go Friday night and Saturday. Plans can change but as of now, if you or anyone else will be around Saturday afternoon I’d like to get together for a bit.

I’ll be bringing some whistles that are for sale (I’m determined to learn to sell on ebay sooner or later) as well as my keepers. Those for sell will include Burke composite and aluminum low Ds, Reyburn low D, Thin Weasel, Burke composites in G and F and high D, Hoover tunable high D in pvc and whatever else I can come up with. Oh yeah and an Abell Eflat/D/C set.

The “keepers” that others are welcome to try will include.

O’Riordan Concert Set with ebonite tube - the set Wanderer reviewed
O’Riordan Bflat/A/G aluminum set
Burke brass narrow bore and session black tips
A couple of Abell high Ds including the one that Philo was so partial to
Abell Bflat/A set
Busman delrin that’s really nice
Burns blackwood flute - not the folk model
Hoza Eflat flute
Seery polymer flute

I like to meet others at the festival. In the past I’ve had opportunities to play someone’s Olwell flute and my first Copelands as well as a variety of others. Good company and sharing. Mike Burke stopped by one of our meetings.

Hey Jum. I’ve been hoping you’d make the trip with your pack of goodies. I’m sure there’ll be some more whistles in there that I haven’t got to try out. I’ll send my cell number so we can hook up early.

When I talked with Mike Burke in St Louis he said he’d be in Milwaukee for the Irish Fest School of Music and He usuually can be seen on the Fest grounds Thurs evening and maybe Friday. I wish he could set up a stand at Irish Fest to display his wares but I’m sure the overhead is way too high and the volume would be a problem. Its usually hard to turn around in the Walton tent and its a big layout..

Still haven’t heard from Nancy, Rebel RN, and the other area residents.

I am planning on coming to IF on Sunday, but I don’t know what time I’ll be there - I’m coming back into town late Friday after a week long Emergency Preparedness training in Maryland, and I am helping my parents with their (and my) rummage sale all day on Saturday.

I always come in at the South Gate so I’ll be on the lookout for you, don’t know if I’ll be there early enough.

Hello Duffy,

I just read your thread about being at the south gate at Irish Fest on

Sunday morning (Saturday also?) I plan to attend and will bring my

whistles for folks to look at. This is the first year that I will be doing

this. The whistles I will bring are my Chris Abel Blackwood/Silver D,

Overton E Flat (tunable) and D (Non-tunable) made by Colin Goldie,

and my O’Riordans, a low D w/shamrocks, a low G, a Concert D/C

Set in Kingwood, a Traveller Set D/E Flat, and a beautiful Brass D

w/shamrocks. I look forward to meeting you Duffy and the rest of

you from the Chiff and Fipple family.

Regards,

James

In addition to Sunday Morning, I’ll set up at the tables inside the South Gate between 3 & 4 Saturday Afternoon. That way maybe it will work for a few more people. I will be trying to catch as many acts as possible and maybe get to at least one of the evening sessions so sometimes its hard to sit in one place but I also enjoy watching the crowds when I can.

So much to see and do, Wolfhounds, tug of wars, boat races, beverage refills. . .and always listening to the tunes.

I’ll likely be there all three days, so I’ll make every attempt to find you guys Saturday and Sunday. I’ll have a Silkstone Alloy D for sale and can bring my Casey Burns Folk Flute if anyone would like to pick it up (else I’ll just leave that one at home). The “keepers” I’ll have with me include a Water Weasel D, a Jerry Tweaked Generation, and my Paddy Ward Derlin flute.

I’ll be playing Friday evening at the Castle Garden Stage for the Irish Fest School of Music. And again on Saturday morning with my band, áthas, at the North Gate entrance from 9-10 am and then again from 11-11:30 am for the Arthritus Foundation walk/run. So hopefully I’ll get to meet up with some Chiffers this year!

I should be able to make the Saturday afternoon get together and look forward to connecting and reconnecting to others. Sorry I won’t get to see those who will only be there on Sunday.

man…all i’ve got to bring is my much-abused busman pau rosa (no offence paul, it played great unil I subjected it to me glovebox in summer :frowning: )

Rain in the forcast for Friday evening and Saturday afternoon but that close to the lake it is always hit & miss.

Gaelic Storm played a free concert in Wauwatosa to a crowd of 2500+. Billed as a prevue to Irish Fest. The organizers were overwhelmed by the turnout and ranout of just about everything but unpopular beers.

This was the third year in a row for them and stormchasers were there in full strength. Great show, so so sound, poor visability. Loved it. Looking forward to the next three days with GS, CTL, and so many many others.
