Well, the day has come for me to retire from the world of Uilleann pipe playing. I have decided to sell all of my UPs and move on. This is not a ‘buy a set of pipes then sell them in frustration six months later’ situation. I started out on the pipes way back in 1990. I had a great start. Living next to a Northumbrian pipe maker gave me opportunities that most beginning pipers would relish. I attended summer schools in Ireland and the North East of England, and had some lessons from players such as Robbie Hannan. I attended monthly meetings at the Bagpipe museum in Northumberland and my first chanter was a Peter Hunter D stick(now in the care of Innerhand) that sang like a randy blackbird. Moving to Japan in 1996 really humped my piping, and the eleven years in between due to various factors my piping has dropped to such depths that I really don’t care to continue.
I still love the pipes and an Ennis CD is always in my CD deck, but I would rather leave the playing to people who can.
Pipes available.
Greenwood pipes four-drone flat set in C. The is a beautiful set to look at and play. It is made from curly lemonwood with some very nice drones. The extra drone has a Northumbrian-style stopper to separate it from the standard drones. There are also padded bellows and a few extra chanter reeds. (There is a photo at the end of this post.)
The C set is now taken.
2) Davey Stephenson Deluxe practice set in concert D + Robbie Hughes concert D chanter + Clarke and Ennis tutor books -
For sale or I will exchange the lot for some decent small pipes (preferably SSPs.) SOLD US$1000 Stephenson set - Ebony and brass chanter with maple mounts (wood top) . Birdseye maple bellows. US$600 Hughes chanter - Blackwood and brass with imitation ivory mounts (brass top.)
US$4500 Full set by Alan Ginsberg made around 1994-5. This set needs some repairs so, of course, it will be cheaper than a working set. Regs and chanter need reeding. One key on the baritone reg needs a repaired spring. Bass regulator cap was stolen in a bar. ( God knows why anyone would want to steal it.)
…I was inspired by Quinn’s use of the lemonwood for Lewis’ neo-beehive set, The lemonwood is GREAT stuff. Nice mellow tone, it ages nicely and has proven to be very stable.
Sorry to hear that yer giving up mukade…won’t you reconsider?

I’ve been waiting, for her, for so… hang on… okay back to the piping
Sorry to see you sell these lovely pipes Mukade! I feel like this atleast a few times a year, are you sure you want to do this… I can find you a good rehab program if it’s the drugs… also if it’s money you need, please consider prostitution!
Geez. Having given up on the utility of C&F as a source for new knowledge I come back to the site for a glance today and find that Father d’Arcy is now encouraging prostitution! What else have I missed learning about you Padre? Hey, come see me sometime!
No, i don’t need the money. The pipes just aren’t getting used and I hate to see that. I have tried to get the interest back, but it just hasn’t happened.
As for prostitution, try freelance translation - it’s pretty much the same thing.
