This should be in the politics/religion thread or at least set apart with an OT tag.
The “author” has posted only two identical messages in separate forums. I thnk we’ve been spammed by a religio-troll.
no, this should be in my totally useless thread..
“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” St. Matt. 5:3
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” St. Matt. 13:44
Hmm, oddly, when I first saw this person’s post the img tag was working. It seems to have been edited so it wouldn’t…?
The first of these quotes can lead to much trouble, as many people seem to believe that if they behave in the name of God or religion in such a way as to goad others to oppose them, they are therefore righteous and blessed and set to inherit the Kingdom.
I have a concern as to whether there’s genuine righteousness involved in many instances, but only prideful self-righteousness. In fact, I would even say, this pattern is a deep seated component of much of the worst of what is happening in the world today as it supplies a rationalization for and glorification of divisive, malicious activities.
On the other hand, there are also instances where authentic righteousness is at work, for which the passage holds true.
Best wishes,
Jerry
Crap!! How did my ex-wife find this board!
I opted not to do extensive quoting (not wanting to play into the hands of what appears to be a trolling thread), but Christ had much to say on the subject of self-righteousness and insincere motives. It was never His message that man may of his own righteousness or deservings become an inheritor of divine grace.
Likely so, in many cases.
Not only in this age, but in every age from Antedeluvian time.
I reckon your beatitude is this, “Blessed are the self-righteous, for they think theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Hi, Walden.
I think we’re in agreement. Just as you say, Jesus was clear in his warnings about counterfeit spirituality.
If I may make a request, and if the others on this board will indulge my asking, would you mind posting the full text of the Beatitudes? This is not for the sake of debating anything; They are some of the most soul soothing words ever spoken, and I would like to read them for my own benefit.
Best wishes,
Jerry
What I want to know is, what is this person smoking, and did she bring enough to share?

The Beatitudes, from the Sermon on the Mount.
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
–St. Matthew 5:1-12.
Thanks, Walden.
BTW, this is good:
Best wishes,
Jerry
My favorite is the one from Lerner and Loewe:
“I find humility means to be hurt
It’s not the earth the meek inherit, it’s the dirt.”
I want to follow the URL, but I’m not sure if I should. If I do, what will I see?
The Journey is all that matters.
It’s just a banner ad with a googly-eyed guy on it, repeating the message the poster left. It doesn’t actually link to anything and, because he didn’t have the actual image location, but a webpage on which it’s hosted, it didn’t post here.

You probably saw the identical post in the Irish Trad music forum. That one had a working IMG tag.

Walden and Jerry have now proven that you can turn anything into an intelligent conversation.
Yes. Mordred. Excellent anti-hero.
According to T.H.White, the son of Arthur and a witch named…?
(was that Morgan le Fay?)
I edited the original post to add OT to the subject line and, in so doing, I may have sheared off the end of the img tag. I blame myself. If it’s any consolation, in the process of editing the post, I got a really nasty paper cut.
