FS: Gallagher/Robinson half-set w/ accessories

For sale is a Seth Gallagher/Robinson half set, with a few extras.

Ebony/Macassar Ebony and brass
Concert pitch
Keyless (blocked) chanter
Drones were added in 2007 from the workshop of maker David Robinson. Great tone, I find (completely subjectively mind you) to be a bit more rich that Seth’s drones generally.

Read on for the details, and feel free to either email or PM with any questions. bri (dot) dobson at gmail.

Asking price is $3,500 - but I’ll certainly entertain reasonable offers. Price includes half-set, hard case & complete reed making kit and supplies. Note that shipping and insurance will be extra depending on your location and choice of carrier. Thanks for helping out a brother…er…piper…um…whatever…

Nice looking set but I don’t know how you can call it a “Seth Gallagher” half set if the drones were made by somebody else. A “Seth Gallagher” half set would be made entirely by Seth.

Agreed, just a smidge misleading.

how about just plain misleading? anyone who knows seth’s drones would look at that picture w/befuddlement.

True. However, the body of the text does point out that the drones aren’t Seth’s work. The title of the thread is the misleading part. Perhaps Brian will be ameniable to re-writing it… maybe calling it a “combo 1/2 set”.?.

Fixed it.

Wow - some of you are persnikity aren’t ya?? Title and body have been amended to keep everybody happy, and the complete description and photos originally posted should help with any general questions. Thanks to those who have inquired so far.

That’s actually incorrect. Seth has made both bell and puck style drones with the latter being his standard of the past few years. This particular set were made based specifically on a set of Seth’s make. While he was here, both of our pipemakers were able to spend a good deal of time with Seth and have a rather good idea of what he’s done and is doing now. So to be perfectly clear, the drones are different than what Seth makes now - unless you ask him to use the bell design. Cheers!

Brazenkaine has a very good eye. And he is absolutely right.
I have owned three separate Gallagher sets and I knew immediately
that it was not Seth’s work. Yes, he has made bell-style drones. But
even the shape of those drones is NOTHING like Seth’s work. Whether
they are kinda, sorta like Seth’s is immaterial.

Brazenkaine, keep on callin’ them as you see them!

Heya.

I think everyone now knows who made what here, so please, let us move on.

That sure is a pretty set.

In response to a few inquiries - the hard case is Seth’s standard hard travel case, and no, sadly the clasps aren’t lockable. It is a very sturdy case with his standard black exterior and dark forest green fuzzy interior. The reed making tools include shooting block, mandrels, tying rig, saws, knives, calipers, sandpapers, gouges, chisels…and of course plenty of copper & brass (sheet and tubes) and cane. I can get photos emailed off if any are interested.

The dust is starting to settle after the move, and life is starting to regain some sense of normality. The half set and reed making kit is still available. I’d be willing to let it all go at $2,500 at this point. Would really like it to go to someone who will play and enjoy it rather than having it grace the inside of it’s case all the time instead.

Feel free to email or PM if interested. Thanks all!

Good heavens, that’s pretty stuff. Seems like a nice price, too. Good luck!!!

After several rather interesting conversations with interested parties - no sale was completed on the half-set. So for the time being, I’m going to take them off the market and may revisit finding them a new home sometime in the future. Thanks all!

The set has sold. Thanks all - happy new year!
