Saw it a few days ago and though it was quite a bit overpriced.
Very sad circumstances for the owner i.e. to find out one day that he will never be able to play anymore.
How about this O’Briain:

They are both overpriced. They may be good sets but they are not £15 -17K good.
OK so the guy has stopped making, get over it.

ps I still have a chanter in D by Dave Williams R.I.P,Boxwood Ivory and Silver £3K For Sale would consider offers over £3.5K
Yikes, with that kind of money I could outfit a DANG fine shop… with ALL the bells and whistles!
No, he hasn’t. I have seen and heard a very-recently-made full set from this maker last month. I agree about the overpriced bit, though.
Well that makes the description of the £15k set that was on EBay even more ridiculous then.(Books closed etc)If’n ye want to skip the however long waiting list and pay the year 2017 price now in 2009 go ahead…the asylum isnae full yet by the looks o things…
I have no doubt that they’re both great sets of pipes. Something closer to the neighborhood of 12,000 euro would probably be appropriate, but those prices are beyond insane.
I’m wondering just how much the eBay seller actually knows about the pipes that he’s selling. The chanter has F nat. and C nat keys (not a Bb key), and they’re certainly not Cillian’s “first full set.” He’s been making pipes for around two decades if not more, I reckon. I don’t think it would be his first full set with the new reg keys either, because I think that one was boxwood and had some serious warpage issues in the regs…Both sets look in great shape, and I’m sure they sound first class. Once the prices fall out of the stratosphere, I’m sure a couple of people out there will be very happy (if they can still afford their mortgage payments afterwards, that is).
Even 12K Euros is way too much…how much did these sets cost when new?Maybe this is just a bit of clever marketing…start with a crazy price and wiggle it like a lure and see whit fishies come along. The set in Brighton had 2 offers made of £5K (reasonable and sane)and £12K which is way more than its worth and insane, so maybe the seller was a bit cute…and not crazy …although I think the buyer who offered £12K can certainly have my ticket to the asylum.
I had a laugh with Uilliam at the session tonight about this insane price and he suggested that I should post the cost of my magpie efforts by comparison.
