I’ve had my Elfsong D for a couple of weeks now and although I really enjoy the sound I seem to end up playing my Sweet-tone more often so I’m freeing us some cash. It’s the Ruby finish…kind of a sparkly metalic red. Its a gorgeous whistle and easy to play. It will come with the blue velvet emroidered bag and info sheet that Sandy includes and a pipecleaner that she includes for cleaning. If you need any more info about these great whistles just do a search. I won’t set a asking price go ahead and make your best offer and I will take the best one tomorrow at noon…kinda of a little silent auction. lets make it a shipped price so your offer will include insured shipping USPS priority mail (in the contiguous 48 state) I’ll ship as soon as I receive payment I’ll take either paypal (if you go that route you can be playing your whistle by the weekend) or
a cashiers check or money order. Just Private Message me with your offers…thanks and good luck
Okay guys we have a few more hours…I’m kinda disapointed only one offer and there’s definetly room for improvement. I paid $75 shipped and its only a couple of weeks old…just like getting a new one but no wait. I’ll contact the high bidder this afternoon…lets get a few more offers coming
Vaulter, your disappointment might well have something to do with the fact that a lot of us do not like this board used for auctions, especially auctions in which you don’t reveal your reserve price. Given their extreme rarity, O’Riordans might be exceptions, but Elfsongs—are you kidding? This isn’t the way buying and selling has been done on this board and we’re rather conservative here.
My dissapointment was just that more people weren’t interested in getting there hands on one of Sandy’s gorgeous whistles without having to wait 6+ weeks. Sorry if I offended anyones tender sensiblities. I think its more fun having people make offers instead of just setting out a set price. I had no reserve… I’m a man of my word, if the best offer received by 12 pm pacific time was $15 shipped then someone damn well would have stolen a brand new elfsong!!! I have e-mailed and PM’d the high bidder and pending receipt of payment the whistle is sold. Thank you to everyone who was interested in it.
The problem I see with auctions, as opposed to straight up selling, is that you don’t know if the person is being honest or not. You could have said you recieved a bid for $600 and everybody would remain none the wiser. Not that you would do that, but the possibility is always there.
I think the problem that most people have with auctions like this is simply that it is against board policy. Dale and Rich have gone through years of effort to get this board to where it is now. They are very generous in the types of messages they allow. Discussions are not just limited to whistles and ITM.
Posts of a commercial basis are allowed (they could easily be disallowed). Dale and Rich just ask that you follow a couple of rules when posting this type of message. If you have a whistle to sell, they ask that you post a single message with the details. That message should also include a request that follow up posts NOT be made (ie. no bumps). When the whistle is sold, the seller should post the one and only reply that says the whistle has been sold.
They are simple rules. People get annoyed when they are not followed.

That sounds very reasonable. I’m wondering…is this written anywhere or is it just sort of a non-spoken rule? I’m not doubting it (I think it’s a good policy), I just want to read it.
Vaulter, I hope you now see that I was not expressing offence but rather mild annoyance at your violation of board policy. Nothing in my post could reasonably have been interpreted as an attack on your integrity.
The policy doesn’t exist for no reason, making open slather violation therefore reasonable for people who find it more ‘fun’ to conduct auctions. ‘Fun’ for whom, by the way?
Your insinuation that anyone who objects to on board auctions is somehow effete is ridiculous. Some people do object to auctions in principle, believing it an illusion that they deliver the fair results their champions claim for them. I’m not a hard liner like this and I doubt whether many others here are. Rather the policy has a lot to do with the fact that auctions are fair only when governed by well-articulated and thoroughly well-policed protocols. Look at Cranberry’s post for one reason why this is necessary. It would be impossible on a board like this to put the required safeguards and policing in place.
I’m curious about that too..You see, I would probably have bought it had it been posted at a reasonable price. Someday soon I will have one of Sandy’s whistles (after I pay for the Silkstone the Reyburns and the Rose)
