cran's

Can anyone explain to me what cranning is,how it differs from a roll?
or better yet a web link with sound files on how they are to sound.Are they used alot in whistle playing ?

There’s lots of different takes on this, the most common whistle/flute cran is along the lines of
(XXO XXX)
XXX XXX
XXX XOX
XXX XXX
XXX OXX
XXX XXX

The first one is a grace cut to break it off, some people tongue this part. then the rest of it should be timed like a roll

My understanding, flawed though it may be, is that you can’t properly roll a bell note, so you do a cran instead (two cuts rather than cut tap).
