Cotter Flute for sale

Hi there. I am selling my Eamonn Cotter flute that I have owned for about 7 years. It is in immacculate condition (well it will be after I polish the keys) and is much loved. It is the 6-key 3 piece Blackwood version with the original wooden case. I am selling because I mostly play pipes these days. The flute is great, if I had time to give to it I would not part with it. I think Eamonn sells them for €1600 to €2000 new and I will look at all reasonable offers in this region. If I get responses I will send photos and sound clips. I am based in Tipperary if someone wants to try it.

Hi,

I’m interested in some photos and sound clips of the Cotter. I’m looking for a keyed flute that is easy to play, and preferably one that has a somewhat reedy tone with a solid, resonant low D. I currently have a Resonance Sweet keyless, a Tony Dixon Delrin keyless, and an Ormiston blackwood 6 key. They all have their strengths, but none is able to meet all the needs of a single session. The keyless flutes of course require cross-fingerings and the Ormiston doesn’t honk in the lower register. It’s a sweet instrument, but I want something that really blows on the low notes. Is there anything else you can tell me about the Cotter, and could I see some pictures? Thanks!

Not thumping on low notes here, but the Cotter has a strong low end.

If your Ormiston has a weak low end, if may be because of your embouchure if you are a beginner, or there may be a leak. I’ve played an Ormiston once, it wasn’t my kind of flute but it was a strong player in all registers…

I’ll second Lorenzo re: Ormiston. I’ve played quite a few - all honked, but I don’t like 'em!

I’ll move the Ormiston discussion to another thread so the Cotter can stay focused on getting sold . . .
