Classical Whistle Duet

Every now and again folks will post about playing music other than Irish on whistle.

Here’s a duet for ya, from the Telemann Sonata No. 2, played on Serpent “Village Viper” B-flat whistle:

I hope you enjoy. I had fun recording it.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, for your listening enjoyment, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the renowned whistlist …

James

Fantastic! I’ll bet that really was fun to do. Thank you for posting it. My sister is a Classical Violinist. I’m going to email the link to her.

Big Grin on my face!

I think folks on this board should do more of this kind of stuff.

Peeplj forgot to mention one extremely cool thing about this piece. It is part of a canonic sonata, which means that both whistle parts are identical! Think of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. The only difference in the lines is a tad of fudging at the end so both end up at the same time. Telemann was a certifiable genius who wrote about 12 of these sonatas, each with 3 or 4 movements. Common fare for recorder players, but not often (never?) heard on whistle. Great performance, Peeplj.

Bravo! That was awesome!

James,
I gotta ask. Did you learn this by ear? Because if you didn’t it doesn’t sound as good. :stuck_out_tongue: :smiling_imp:

Thanks to all for the kind comments!

Nope, I’m afraid I didn’t learn this one by ear, though I’ll grant you that would be impressive if someone could.

I played it from the dots and squiggles.
