Personally, I support Unicef. I like their cards. I like their philosophy.
I like them.
One of my favorites is Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian-based charity that does all kinds of things – food, clean water, medical care, education, disaster relief, care of orphans, and AIDS education, just to name a few. I first became aware of them through the Operation Christmas Child project, where you pack a shoe box filled with gifts for a needy child. This year, I’m going to start putting Meg whistles in my boxes!
I tend to support more my local charities - such as our local homeless shelter and the local charity that gives support to pregnant women by providing clothes and baby items.
But a great bigger charity is Victory Junction Gang camp - a camp chronically and/or terminally ill children. Victory Junction Gang was founded by the Petty family (of NASCAR fame) in honor of their son Adam, who had a dream when he was alive of starting a camp such as this, but sadly was killed at age 19 before he could bring his dream to reality. The Pettys donated the land the camp sits on and have been instrumental in raising the millions of dollars it cost to open.
Victory Junction is now a reality, and a fabulous one at that. One of the best things about the camp is that the families of the children do not have to pay a dime for anything while their child is at camp - not just room and board are free, but all (state of the art) medical care, including medications and treatments.
Repeating meself: here’s my personal favourite:

I heard this guy on the radio and checked it out. The idea that normal people can help make real difference in people’s lifes is very cool. I think they’re at a vulnerable point right now, when they’re getting a lot of attention and more money. I hope he can keep the vision.
If you don’t know this charity, please check it out. It’s neat, and i don’t know anything like it.
