Boxwood Rudall Wilkes flute on ebay

Not my flute, but I’ve played it and it’s freaking fantastic. Make sure you securely fasten your drool aprons.

Edited to add:

This flute is being offered by Gramps Levine, formerly of these fora, now wandering aimlessly in exile. So, you know you’re safe with him.

Does it tend to the pratten or the rudall or…?

It’s a Rudall.

Further info from Gramps Levine:

Chris Wilkes boxwood flute in pristine condition. The flute has been played little and is in essence a new flute. It has always been kept humidified and lightly oiled. I am only selling it because I prefer a keyed flute. This flute is based on a large hole Rudall design, with perfect intonation. It has great clarity and volume, and great projection.

Wilkes is one of the top flute makers in the world of Irish music. His flutes have a lengthy wait list (ten years) and he rarely makes a keyless flute. There is no praise that I can offer for this flute that has not been said before. It is one of the best flutes I have ever played. I can provide references of experienced players in the US who have played this flute and who give it rave reviews. This is a rare opportunity to buy an exceptional flute.

The flute is made from seasoned and stained boxwood. Wilkes’ attention to detail is evident in every aspect: wide silver bands, threaded crown, ivory-capped grease pot and the exquisite handmade solid-walnut case with brass latches and Wilkes’ cartouche. The case has been kept in a protective bag and it is as new. I will be happy to provide more pictures. I am offering the flute without a reserve price. I am also offering the flute on other venues. While Paypal is preferred by EBay it is not necessarily my choice. We can discuss this further. Shipping and insurance will be at buyer’s expense.

Drool. Pant.

I’d say it’ll be way way out of my price range, except that we’ve still got a Hammy listed for 300 below list. Someone might really get a deal on this.

Well as expected that was quick. Looks like the boxwood Wilkes has been sold. On e-bay it now says that bidding has ended for item:
Exquisite keyless boxwood flute. New. No Reserve. Item number: 230295041934. I wonder who the lucky owner is? David is a very trustworthy seller and always has some very interesting flutes.
