best whistle bag

Whats the best thing in which to keep a bunch of whistles ? Is there something made already with the right pouches, that can just be rolled up? What are peoples’ favorite “whistle bags”? I’m tired of rolling mine up in a cloth, well..this is probably a really old topic, but that’s what the new folks are for rright?..to re-invent the wheel.
(a tritiny of embarrased newbies)

At the Dollar Store here they sell kid’s golf sets for, I think, $4.

With the golf set, comes a plastic red and black golf club bag. It’s about 23" long, and has a carrying strap on it, like a purse or backpack. I took the end off with scissors, turned it inside out, sewed it up, and now my whistles fit exactly in it, and look really pretty.

Problem is, I keep my whistles in a box, and the bag thing never gets used.

It would be worth your time to do a search of the archives on this one… it’s been discussed a few times, with really interesting ideas every time. Things range from PVC tubes with caps to drumstick bags to Native American flute quivers (that would be my addition… ). You’ll find some really creative ideas in those threads!

Hope that helps…

I have two bags that I like:

  1. Go to any good music store and for about $9 you can buy a percussion mallet bag. It will hold about 7-9 whistles and rolls up into a nice carrying case. It’s padded and offers a fair amount of protection, although it’s not a hard shell case.

  2. Artisan Bags: this place makes outstanding leather cases for whistles. I got a single case for a Sindt D and a double case for a Sindt A-Bb combination. This place is in the middle of the Adirondacks (15 miles East of Nowhere) and the web address is www.leatherartisan.com

I use my old leg cast lining, but have looked at cutlery rolls (meant to hold knives) knitting needle bags, knitted bags, etc.

Cheap and fast: get a very large towel, lay it out and fold the edge up enough to form a good pouch for your longest whistle, and leave a long enough top to fold over. Stitch each slot with heavy cord, and attach a string to tie the whole thing.

Less cheap: pay someone to knit or stitch you a bag. Bribe someone.

I’ve about got my wife talked into sewing custom whistlebags to sell here on C&F. Dale OK’d it. I think she wants to make them but she’s a little bit too busy to start on that right now though. Maybe later this year…

Mike Burke has a really nice roll up case for not alot of money - check out his website. http://www.burkewihistles.com

I’ve designed one with 4 pouches, the lining is Egyptian cotton and the outside is fleece. I like cotton for my instruments, wood or otherwise.
I’ve tried to find an appropriate box, but haven’t seen a reasonably priced one.

Lots of good ideas here. I would ask my Bethie, but she is still working on the toddler jammies for our son who is now 8. Maybe I could sew up something out of a quilted material..Hum…
The drumstick bag might be a good instant solution but I hate plastic. A bandoleer of musical ammunition…can you see it?

Want the best? Drop a note or a pm to NyghtShayde - she makes the things from fabric, leather, whatever you want!
They’re the best! And inexpensive!

I can’t believe I actually saw the 'L*****r" word mentioned more than once in this thread without someone jumping all over the poster for suggesting it ~ SHEESH!

I mentioned a pretty leather case to hold flutes over on the “other” board, and touched off a huge discussion on the evils of using leathergoods.

Whatevah!

In a weak moment (and during a good sale), I sprung for one of the TuffBags whistle cases. I love it. Holds all the whistles I need, plus several music books. It’s travelled with me several times by now. This was a splurge of a purchase for me, but I was really tired of all the makeshift ways I was trying to deal with my whistles. For me, this is worth it.

It’s also a semi-cure for WhOA. I’ve decided I need only as many whistles as will fit in that bag, and no more!

Good grief. I sell leather whistle bags. They’re made of black-dyed pigskin, copper rivets, and are quite attractive. If you don’t like them, please feel free to purchase a dozen or so and throw hog blood on them in a public place.

I repeat – Good grief.

Exactly!!!

I found that I needed a bag not only for whistles, but also for music and tapes for my lessons. Found it at Sam Ash - Groove Pac , a bag for drum sticks and a bass drum pedal. Has large inner pockets that will hold both whistles and music and smaller zipped pockets for tapes, etc. Also has an outside pocket, handles and shoulder strap, black nylon that zips up. (Even has internal bungee chord to wrap it around your bass drum open while you play). Oh, $29.99. Perfect for me.

I will send you the URL for the current issue of the TuffBaggs catalogue. I like mine a lot.

I use a pool cue case. take the divider and replace it so its even instead of slanted inside the case. put in my lows, situate my highs in there… shut it, lockandload!!

What’s wrong with Leather??
I have used leather for my wood fifes.
I prefer cotton though, even though I have no proof it does no harm, just like the “feel”.
