Battlestar Galactica... I'm hooked

From an older thread:

Last night I watched the pilot miniseries of the new Battlestar Galactica on DVD, and now I can’t wait to start watching season 1. It’s so much better than the original BSG that I can’t even compare the two. Excellent television.

By the way, did anyone else notice the nice little homage to Joss Whedon? Near the beginning of the miniseries, when the Minister of Education is talking with her doctor, several ships fly by overhead, visible through the skylight windows; one of those ships is a Firefly.

I told you.

Yeah, yeah, … you were right.

Oh, and I really needed to get hooked on a TV series so I’d have something to do with my vast quantities of spare time. Thanks a lot.

Don’t worry, my roommate and I are addicted, and we acquired the first season, then 2.0, then 2.5. When we finished watching them all, I think it’d been three weeks since we’d seen the first episode. So now we’ve bought a season pass for season 3 on iTunes, and we’re waiting for this next half-season to start up (it’s this Sunday!). So anyway, now that we’re caught up, it only takes up an hour a week.

Hope that makes you feel better…

I still can’t get over the idea of Starbuck being a chick. I had the HOTS for Dirk Benedict, doggone it!

Haven’t been able to get into the new series at all. Would have been better if they’d just adapted the concept and changed the characters’ names.

Perhaps it helps that I never got into the original series; I have no attachment to any of the old characters or story lines.

Are you kidding? With cylons like this, I’d capitulate instantly!

(is that the right word?)

Well, let’s assume that’s what you meant.

That’s premature capitulation.
Tony

Well, duh, it’s good science fiction!
Read what the Bad Astronomer has to say about it.

Oh, I give up!

How much is a season pass on iTunes? I’m curious. I usually download my shows on bittorrent, but wouldnt mind paying for them if they’re cheap. Also, what is the size of the files, the format, and the resolution? I’m usually downloading divx files, which are about 350MB for 45 minutes, and the resolution must be close to 640x480

Season 3 (all 20 episodes, which are split in two DVD sets) is $35. If you were to buy it on DVD, it would be at least $50, probably more like $60. The files are .m4v, and are protected. This is my main gripe with the protection: You can put them on a DVD, but only as data. You have to watch them on a computer with iTunes and the internet, and you can only have permissions set on 5 computers at a time. But for what my roommate and I do with them, it’s pretty okay.

Ahhh, so if understand correctly, you can’t download one episode at a time, every week there’s a new one? You get them in two batches?

You do have the option of downloading one episode at a time, but I took the option of buying a season pass, which (I assume) is less, though I don’t know the difference. I’d end up buying them all, anyway, though.

Starting with season two, the show is split into two batches, one half-season in the fall, and one half-season after Christmas (starts this Sunday in fact) and the DVDs are sold split the same way.

But then you’ll have to wait until the end of the season to get the batch? Also, how big are the files?

Looks like it might be an interesting article, but I stopped near the beginning where it says, “SPOILERS!” I’m just starting the 1st season, after all.

You can get them from iTunes as they come out. The DVD will come out after they’ve all been aired.

The episodes are about 500MB, and the quality is said to be “almost DVD quality,” if I recall.

Oh, man I wasted so much time this weekend because of this thread!!
I went and pulled out my copies of BSG seasons one and 2.0.

By the way, Slude and others, did you hear about the BSG, prequel series?
