Last night I watched the pilot miniseries of the new Battlestar Galactica on DVD, and now I can’t wait to start watching season 1. It’s so much better than the original BSG that I can’t even compare the two. Excellent television.
By the way, did anyone else notice the nice little homage to Joss Whedon? Near the beginning of the miniseries, when the Minister of Education is talking with her doctor, several ships fly by overhead, visible through the skylight windows; one of those ships is a Firefly.
Don’t worry, my roommate and I are addicted, and we acquired the first season, then 2.0, then 2.5. When we finished watching them all, I think it’d been three weeks since we’d seen the first episode. So now we’ve bought a season pass for season 3 on iTunes, and we’re waiting for this next half-season to start up (it’s this Sunday!). So anyway, now that we’re caught up, it only takes up an hour a week.
How much is a season pass on iTunes? I’m curious. I usually download my shows on bittorrent, but wouldnt mind paying for them if they’re cheap. Also, what is the size of the files, the format, and the resolution? I’m usually downloading divx files, which are about 350MB for 45 minutes, and the resolution must be close to 640x480
Season 3 (all 20 episodes, which are split in two DVD sets) is $35. If you were to buy it on DVD, it would be at least $50, probably more like $60. The files are .m4v, and are protected. This is my main gripe with the protection: You can put them on a DVD, but only as data. You have to watch them on a computer with iTunes and the internet, and you can only have permissions set on 5 computers at a time. But for what my roommate and I do with them, it’s pretty okay.
You do have the option of downloading one episode at a time, but I took the option of buying a season pass, which (I assume) is less, though I don’t know the difference. I’d end up buying them all, anyway, though.
Starting with season two, the show is split into two batches, one half-season in the fall, and one half-season after Christmas (starts this Sunday in fact) and the DVDs are sold split the same way.
Looks like it might be an interesting article, but I stopped near the beginning where it says, “SPOILERS!” I’m just starting the 1st season, after all.
