Bag/bellows technique?

Well, I’ve had my Uilleann pipes for about a month. I also have the 1st volume NPU dvd, which is great. However, I have a bit of confusion about just how the bag/bellows combination is actually employed. Is pressure maintained by the bellows, and the bag only used to keep pressure on the instrument while the bellows is being refilled, or is pressure maintained by the bag, and filled with the bellows when the bag gets close to empty? Or does it boil down to personal preference?

I am having a great time with the instrument, but I want to make sure I don’t get too far along with bad bag technique!

Thanks!

Enough air, enough pressure, and keep that stabile.

The pressure in the Bag should be kept constant all the time..the bellows are merely a means to supply air to the bag without jerking movements which ye would surely be doing if ye let the bag deflate too much.Play a G’ in the second octave, take a mental note of the pressure ye are using on the bag and keep it at that all the time.

See if this is any help

in with the good air, out with the bad air . . . everyone, now!

Well said, Uilliam!

Play with the bag, not the bellows!

Thanks! I thought I was doing it wrong! I was applying the GHB method to these Uilleann pipes, and it just did’nt seem right. Not only that, the connecting hose kept on blowing out of the bellows. Now it does’nt, and my pressure control is much better. I love this forum!

Cheers!
