Attn: Tulsa Area C&F Members

Hey all!

The whistlers in the Tulsa area ought to get together! There’s a great opportunity coming up!

This Monday evening, one of our fellow C&F members, John-N, is playing at Kilkenny Irish Pub with his band “Kilkenny Road”. I thought this would be a good time for some of us to meet and support one of our own!

The pub is on Cherry Street and is also a restaurant. The band is playing from 7pm to 10pm. There is no cover charge.

You can get the directions to the place from here:

Just click on the restaurant’s name.

Hope to see you there!

Kim

I’ll be the one looking through the window because they won’t let me in  Hopefully we can all meet up sometime where there aren’t age restrictions. Until then!

Brent

Brent! It’s a restaurant! I’m bringing my six year old and my three year old. I’m sure they’ll let you in!

Come on, it’ll be fun to meet some other whistle addicts!

Kim

Oops…I guess I should’ve read your post more carefully…I read Kilkenny road and assumed that you mean JUST the band. They usually play at Arnie’s on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (which usually doesn’t happen) Sundays of the month. I know they won’t let me into Arnie’s…I’ll have to ask my dad about going. Since today is my last day of school, going to Tulsa on a Monday night shouldn’t pose a problem for me. My dad on the other hand…We’ll just have to see.

Brent

I live an hour or so from Tulsa, but probably won’t be able to make it. Maybe next time!

I probably won’t make it either. Maybe another weekend.

Cheers,
BB

I’ll have to ask my dad about going.

Brent,

I’ll tell ya, when my boys get to be older (I don’t know how old you are, but I assume you’re a teenager? Forgive me if I’m wrong!)… anyway, when my boys get older and if they came up to me saying “Mom, would you take me to Tulsa to see a Celtic band?” Well, I believe I would be just about tickled to death! I hope I get to meet you! I should be pretty easy to spot, with my two Jedis.

My mom and dad are coming too (and I’m 39 years old!), and have invited a couple of friends of theirs. So there’ll be eight of us, at least.

Kim

Well, I hope to see some of you there!

Terrible news about that barge hitting the bridge…

Kim

Yeah. I just saw that on Yahoo’s news page.

Kim, Walden, I’m OK. I hope you and yours are, too.

Take care,
BB

Well, I just got in not too long ago from seeing John play at the Kilkenny Pub and it was fabulous! I went with my parents and a couple of their friends (both of the men being deacons in their church…I wonder how many times the pub waitstaff has seen baptist deacons blessing the food!?! LOL)

Also, my swedish husband went with us, and he didn’t twitch a muscle the entire time, when it was all I could do not to get up and shimmy around (most unbecoming for a baptist woman, but I’m considered “somethin’” by my mom…“That Kim, she’s really something’”, you know.)

Also my two boys, age 3 and 6 went with me, and they really loved it. My three-year old shrieked “LOOK!! That man have a whistle like yours, Mama!” The six year old was tickled that the drum player smiled at him. My boys were (I think) the only kids in the place and not one person gave them a nasty look or appeared cross about them being there.

I guess I should mention that the food was excellent and the prices reasonable for the quality of the food. But like I told the hostess at the door “We are here to see the band!” and John’s band did a great job! I wanted to tell everyone to can it so I could hear, but it’s not their fault I only have one good ear and I don’t think people sit silently in pub! LOL!!

The only thing was, it was all I could do not to pull out my whistle on the way home, I was so inspired…but I’m afraid my resident swede would file for divorce!

Anyway, you Tulsa area people missed a great time. Maybe we can get together some other time.

My grandparents always ordered takeout from Ken’s pizza, because they couldn’t eat inside a place that served beer.

Hello, Kim!

Maybe your husband can try out a Gjallarhorn CD (or is he an Ace of Base fan?).

Next time Mrs. BB and I are in Tulsa, we may have to get a little session going (her sister plays guitar).

Take care,
BB

LOL! Really, this place was very dignified, more of a restaurant than anything. My dad ordered the fish and chips and my six year old ate till he was stuffed, even though he’d already had a small supper before coming (in case they didn’t have anything he wanted.) But I do know what you mean!

My husband listens to news talk radio…that’s it. If I play music in the car, he’ll gradually turn it down so that even if I had two good ears, I wouldn’t be able to hear it! So the boys and I listen when he’s not around.

I know that John’s band has a session frequently at Arnie’s Pub, but I don’t know the particulars…you can read more about it at his website:

The other day (last time I was in Tulsa, in fact) I was telling my sister about a preacher I knew when I was a child, known as “Spittin’ Max” because of his preaching style.

Anyway, I was just watching the replay of the 10:00 News, and lo and behold, he was being interviewed, as one of the bridge collapse survivors. He and his wife (also a survivor) drove into the Arkansas River on their way to a service.

And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? --1Cor.14:7

If we could actually manage to all get together, we could have our own session. We wouldn’t have to be any good. I could play bouzouki.
