Just curious to hear any reports from the Irish Arts Week…
About 30 pipers attended. The highlight of the week was a concert by Benedict Kohler, Ray McNamara, Brian McNamara and Jerry O’Sullivan.
Jerry also marked the occasion with the launch of his new CD, entitled O’Sullivan meets O’Farrell.
All in all, a great week, although the overly humid and hot weather played havoc with the reeds.
Yep, agreed. It was great. That was a good concert, wasn’t it? Wow.
I was playing flute in sessions for the most part, but the pipes got to be played in my class, and in the room for practice, WITH the new drones, I might add! My chanter reed is still a bit insane, but I think it’s settling down.
Was another tremendous week!
Great teachers (same as last year-Jerry O, Brian MacNamara, and Benedict);
Terrific lectures and one in particular on the music of Lietrim, with emphasis on the old pipers of that county. Sort of part 2 from last year given by Brian and his Da. Interspersed with music and Brian’s Brother Ray also on the pipes.
Concerts were exciting as usual with lots of piping throughout, and one in particular with the four pipers (Jerry, Brian, Benedict and Ray). The four of them also cancelled the last morning classes to have a jam session instead.
Probaly about 35+ sessions over the week, excluding the impromptu ones. Lots of pints and late nights! Lots of good friends! Can’t wait til next year. Already put a deposit on my room!
