Anyone attending IAW in East Durham next month?

Not sure if the economic softness in the states has crimped the wallet so to reduce the number of people attending, so I just thought that I would ask. By the way, I am looking forward to the week full of tunes.

Neil

Neil, I’ll be there - what classes are you thinking of signing up for?
Marg

Maybe the raising cost of fuel/airfare will make East Durham into the Paradise it once was in the 50’s. I’ll be there but not till Wednesday.

Marg,

I will sign up for the intermediate level classes (morning and afternoon). Not sure who yet. Benedict Koehler, Brian McNamara and Deb Quigley are teaching intermediate classes. Jerry O’Sullivan is teaching as well, but only basic and advanced. Cillian Vallely and Mattie Connelly are here but don’t appear to be teaching. I haven’t advanced much in my playing unfortunately, and I think that intermediate will always be my thing. That is the problem sometimes with beginning after the age of 35. I am playing about 8 years, and have seen others go much further with that amount of time though.

Neil

Brian’s class was wonderful last year, but this year I’m going with Benedict and Debbie! What a great group of pipers this year! I can’t wait!! See you there,
Marg

Hey Neil,

I’ll be there as well. We’ll have to make time for a C session or two - some friends are coming with from SLC (fiddler and flute player), and they love playing in C as well. And I promise to be sober this time (at least until after we’ve played).

Cheers,
Mark

Hello Mark,
A C session would be great. Maybe I can tune down a few of my kids fiddles as well and get them into it. I can’t recall any notable insobriety (or notable sobriety for that matter!), but it was well in the wee hours last time. Are you staying in Gavins?

The insobriety was only apparent when I tried to play your byooteeful C set, and realized I should go to bed instead. Can’t remember the name of the place where I’m staying, as a friend booked the room. I’ll be in McNamara’s intermediate class and flute as well.

See you there!

Says you! No, I like playing in C even more now that my C flute is here but I don’t plan on bringing that with me to East Durham. I didn’t plan on bringing my C whistle either but should I just in case?

Bump

It starts on Sunday.
Benedict Koehler, Brian MacNamara, Jerry O’Sullivan and Deb Quigley are the UP instructors.

Keep the Tradition alive. This is the best all around week state side, but to keep it going and to continue attracting instructers of such caliber, attendance is important.

Best regards. See you there.

Neil
