Since cheese and prunes may have, er, exactly opposite effects on your digestion ... when you explode you'll have only yourself to blame.

Not a whistle, but my brother gave me a lovely silver flute :>) I've been having a great time trying to make a tuneful noise, and it's coming!

Yeah, would have been able to afford it, if I didn't spend my money on gifts and everything for everybody else. I don't mean to sound like a Grinch or Scrooge. It just feels one sided.

My first two whistles were Feadogs (not bad after I learned how to tune them).
I gave them to a couple friends.
That was when I bought my Chieftain (KWL) Songbird D tuneable.
I really wish Phil would make a flute head for it and the rest of his line.

I've made my (hopeully one and only) leap in to high end whistles and got a Goldie High D. Not had chance to play it yet. I'll be giving it a good road test this afternoon.

I also got several tune books of English folk, dance, session and morris tunes (I've just started Morris Dancing).
Cheers

I didn't get a whistle, but I got $200 to buy one with, and a bit more coming from my parents! Now I'm driving myself nuts looking at all the beautiful custom-made beautys and wondering, if I take the plunge and order an Impempe low D, would I actually be able to play it with the piper's grip (and enjoy it if I learn it). Would I like my beautiful Burke A less if I bought a lower whistle (betrayal)! Or perhaps a Reyburn Bb or A (the A just reachable with my small fingertips). Or a wooden whistle in C by Paul Brewer?? YAAAAAAAAAAA! :boggle:

I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I just doubt it will be one and only. Some day I imagine you'll decide you want to explore the wonderful world of the next lower octive, or you will come across that music that has a C or Bb you just itch to play in its natural key (like Silent Night). You may even decide you like the tweet of a higher key. As a Contrabass Singer (F 2nd oct.), I'm on the quest for keys lower than the Low D (according to my chart is the 4th octive). Even though it is two octives above my range, I plan on a Low (Alto) F being one of my next two purchases. That way at least I would be in natural harmonic.

I'll try to start a new thread on this topic shortly.
Happy whistling, and take care of that instrument, it should take you far.

Correct. :D Had a great time yesterday getting used to the back pressure and the changed embouchure needed for the top end (when compared to my other whistles). When played with attack and confidence it really sings. Beautiful whistle.

I don't buy Christmas presents for myself and I don't expect any gifts from others.
My philosophy is to only give presents to children for Christmas.

I spent an entire day combing the web, looking at whistles with Christmas money burning in my pockets, and in the end I ordered...[drum roll, please]...NOTHING!!
I couldn't find anything that would be a positive addition to the five whistles I already have, especially my beloved Burke low A aluminum, my "reach for" whistle that I play sometimes just to hear the sound it makes. Any tune sounds gorgeous on it.
It's nice to have at least a temporary cure for WHOA, but a the same time, to have Christmas whistle money and not use it on a whistle...something's WRONG with me!!
