Rather, abc notation provides a compact way to convey a tune using just ordinary keyboard strokes, able to be sent through ordinary email without taking up much space data-wise. There are free converters on the web (I use http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html ) so you don't have to purchase or download any software, and neither does the friend to whom you send it. It's easy to learn enough of the basics to write a melody line plus chords, which is what most "trad" players use.
(See http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/d ... rimer.html for an "ABC primer".)
I guess that makes sense, although I don't see how typing out a score in ABC notation would be faster than scanning the music from a book or grabbing a screen capture from the internet. Either could then be emailed and printed on the other end.

My wait is over. It's here. It's blue. It sounds beautiful.
The B2 hole isn't too big and I'm not squawking the note if my finger lands a mm to either side of perfect. It's a bit of a longer stretch to get to B3 but that's something I'll get used to fairly easily I think. This is the first time I've picked up a low whistle and played it this cleanly from the start. Your comment makes sense to me, too. If I HAD a written version of the tune, it's unlikely I'd need to rewrite it. I'm thinking of tunes that reside in my head, that I want to jot down for a friend who wants to learn them, or for myself for future reference. When I can't remember how the tune starts it can really help to glance at the first couple bars of the written dots.

Well, I'm on the waiting list for a red MK Low F. Misha told me recently it will be ready in march if everything is all right. I can't wait!

I think I've been on the waiting list for over 2 years for the low F. March would be nice.

My black low D also arrived today...
I just spent about an hour "getting to know it".

Got mine today. Lovely blue and with a nice case. It is very different from the Copland lo D I usually play. A much edgier sound, and quite breathy unless well supported. It also is amazingly responsive, and much easier to play quick tunes or cuts and strikes than either of my other low whistles.

Definitely worth waiting for, and certainly a fine instrument. I need to get more used to it to play it well though....

Quick update. Black anodised low F now paid for and coming my way next week! Might be a good time to check back with Misha to see if there are any going spare...

I for one would love to see photos! I'm blue with envy!

I love my red MK and I play it nearly every day. All in all, the best Low D on Earth IMHO.

I just played mine yesterday at a wedding, playing Be Thou My Vision along with keyboards. The MK's sound is fantastic on its own but it also blends great with other instruments.

I'll play it today at a church service.

People always compliment the sound and ask "what is that? some kind of flute?"

Hooray! I just received tracking information and notice that my F is on the way.
Let's just say many moons have passed since I placed the order.

Makar - Let us know how yours plays! It'll be a few weeks while mine rows across the pond.

The black low F arrived a few days ago. Much more presence than my only other low F - a susato - and a bit 'breathier' than the MK low D that I own. I like it! Need to get to know it better.
